Mauer had a great career, he just stopped hitting home runs and he played on bad teams that got no national attention.



Mauer never had even one 30 HR season (high of 28 in 2009 and never approached 20 HR a season in any other season). He hit for a high average, which is a plus for a catcher, but when he stopped catching, he became a first baseman/DH with no power kept on the roster only because he was a hometown boy.
