Lawn was originally seeded with Bermudagrass in 2017. Over the years I've had a massive invasion of Dallisgrass, Bahiagrass, Carpetgress, Rush, Spurge, and others. It's in a bad way.
I had the LSU Ag Center come out and take a look and I also had soil tests done. LSU wants me to: core aerate, use Celsius & MSM to control weeds where Bermuda exists, add lime & ammonium sulfate to soil, 41% glyphosate in areas where there is no Bermuda at all and spot Dallisgrass, topdress with sand, and then overseed with Bermuda.
My question is regarding the sequencing/chronology of this? My guess is:

1) Aerate
2) Add lime & ammonium sulfate
3) Topdress sand
4) MSM/Celsius spot treat where Bermuda is growing
5) Glyphosate where no Bermuda is growing
6) Overseed

If there are certain time gaps I should wait, as well, I'd appreciate the input!

I've reclaimed old bermuda lawns in the past.
My order was much smaller but effective in my cases.

1. Nuke it with your weed killers.
2. Add pre emergent
3. Fertilize every 4 weeks and make sure get plenty of water.
4. Pre emergent in the Fall

I'm sure the aeration and top dressing will help but in my experience once you kill most the weeds and fertilize/water the bermuda it will go nuts.

Is there a cost associated with them coming out to give advice?

this works on centipede as well, but every 6 weeks with a mild food like milorganite or 15-0-15....raise the cut height to help with runners,

edit: would add - put down f stop when it starts cooling off in the fall and again when it starts warming up in the spring

You might be the type of guy that likes a challenge and if you are then go for it. If that is what LSU suggested then it will be just as expensive and more time consuming then starting over. Rent or pay someone to aerate, buy lime and ammonium sulfate, buy sand to top dress, buy Celsius and round up, and buy good seed. Also buy the spreader and backpack if you don't have one.

You could till and level what dirt is already there. Drop sod.

That is a reasonable order of progression.

I would not apply ammonium sulfate either immediately before or immediately after seeding Bermudagrass for fear of “burning” bermudagrass seedlings as the seeds germinate. Ammonium sulfate is a quick release fertilizer. .

Where you getting your MSM and Celsius? Stuff is pricey.

I get mine from domyown.

Celsius is pricey but depending on the size of your lawn you'd likely get 2-3, years from a bottle.

Msm is cheap. You don't need a lot. A 2 oz bottle is around $20 on that site. You're gonna be using a tiny amount per gallon (0.1oz per 4 gallons). It'll last you awhile.

Upfront cost is pricey but if you have an average size residential lawn, each bottle should last several + years - they have for me.

As I recall I ordered the MSM Turf (2 oz bottle) from Amazon for about $21, but locations in BR sell it for $24-25. The Celsius I purchased from Site One (Baton Rouge) - I see it listed on their website for $104. Not seen a vendor with a lower price than Site One for Celsius. Site One also sells MSM Turf but only in 8 oz bottles - much more than you need.

You’ll need a 1/8 teaspoon for the MSM Turf. I weight out the Celsius on a small digital “kitchen/jeweler” scale - about $13-15 on Amazon.

@SATNIGHTS

Solutions Pest and Lawn. About ~$100. I'll use it.

@CrawDude

Thanks for the tip on ammonium sulfate. I'll wait a bit on it.

And to others asking, I already own MSMA, Celsius, Prodiamine, MSM, you name it I've got it.

Does anyone know where I can get some good sand by the yard to topdress and level with? Also, what's a good way to level when I don't own any big equipment? I'm only on 3/4ths acre.

I was going to try Landscape Depot but I know nothing about their sand. As far as leveling I was going to try a drag mat behind my mower. I thought about building one out of fence also.

Check these out:

Dude this is so helpful - thank you!
Now given my original post that I need to kill a LOT of weeds and then reseed, would you seed BEFORE or AFTER the sand?

I need to aerate badly this spring as well. Thing is I have 18k total sqr. ft. to cover and was wondering if there was any rental place that had aerators wider than 19”

Not sure on the seeding. I would search that lawn site I posted though. There should be some good info there.

You should be able to rent or buy a pull type core aerator that is wider.

Was going to, called the only place that advertises tow behind aerators. Apparently they just don’t rent them at all in this area. Crazy.

If only there was a spreadsheet nerd among us that ran the numbers for cost per 10KSF for various lawn chemicals...
