When Augie Garrido retired, Texas tried mightily to find his replacement.

This was what was "reported " online after Garrido's announcement:

quote:

The good news for the Longhorns is, similar to the football program and perhaps more so, the combination of prestige, facilities and resources makes the Texas job one of -- if not the most --truly coveted gigs in college baseball. The Longhorns should have their pick of the nation’s elite, and there’s already some talk among the national media that the next Texas head coach will be a home run hire.

Sound familiar?

The Austin newspaper listed the top candidates for the job:

Kevin O'Sullivan (Florida), Jim Schlossnagle (TCU), Dan McDonnell (Louisville) and Dan Heefner (Dallas Baptist). All turned down the job, eventually given to David Pierce, who had just gone to Tulane.

Five years later would any of those guys be interested in the LSU job? If not, who's our David Pierce? That's what we would be settling for. (Pierce's record in the Big 12, by the way, is a combined 41-37).

(Personally, I think Schlossnagle would jump at the chance to take the LSU job. And maybe McDonnell.)

Uh, I love LSU but don’t see Schloss leaving TCU. He has manageable expectations & lives in a giant metro area with lots of local BB talent.
