Instead, Sarnoff believes that the future of DC is more than just movies. She’s excited about a multi-platform future, one that sees Batman, Superman, the Flash, and other Justice League members popping up on streaming shows, video games, television spinoffs, and big screen outings. It’s a vision that echoes what Marvel has been doing with its Avengers characters, taking superheroes like the Vision, Hawkeye and Loki, who have previously appeared only in movies, and giving them streaming shows of their own. The WarnerMedia Studios chief is also excited about the diverse range of creators she’s been enlisting to tell some of these stories, which includes tapping “Between the World and Me” author Ta-Nehisi Coates to write a Superman film or developing “Blue Beetle,” which marks the company’s first Latinx superhero movie.

What are your plans going forward for DC?

We’ve got an incredible group of creators — television series creators, Max series creators, feature film creators — who are basically broadening the base of the talent that we work with on DC because we’re so excited about the potential to build out the DC multiverse. It’s one of the reasons why I was hired almost two years ago. The before-and-after was it was a very siloed organization with no connectivity between the businesses. DC was being developed, but in a kind of monolithic way in each division. My mantra coming in was to make it bigger and broader and we really want to surprise and delight the fans with more connective tissue across the various media and platforms. I’m talking movies, HBO Max, television and our games division.

The campaign for #ReleaseTheSnyderCut has moved into a new phase. It’s now #RestoreTheSnyderVerse. What’s your reaction to this new campaign?

I appreciate that they love Zack’s work and we are very thankful for his many contributions to DC. We’re just so happy that he could bring his cut of the “Justice League” to life because that wasn’t in the plan until about a year ago. With that comes the completion of his trilogy. We’re very happy we’ve done this, but we’re very excited about the plans we have for all the multi-dimensional DC characters that are being developed right now.

Will there be more of these director’s cuts? Will we see David Ayer’s cut of “Suicide Squad”?

We won’t be developing David Ayer’s cut.

Looking at the DC slate, there seems to be an emphasis on creating opportunities for diverse creators and and characters. You’ve got a Latino superhero movie with “Blue Beetle,” Sasha Calle becoming the first Latinx actress to portray Supergirl, and Ta-Nehisi Coates writing a Superman movie. Is there a concerted effort to take the brand in a more inclusive direction?

It’s super important to me and it’s in line with what we want to do. We want to branch out and let creators interpret parts of the universe in unique and special ways. Ta-Nehisi working on Superman is incredibly exciting, I can’t wait to see what he comes up with, and [director] Andy Muschietti on “The Flash” or Patty Jenkins. Matt Reeves just finished filming “The Batman” against the odds of COVID. We’re so excited to finish that movie and have people see it, because Matt’s take on Batman is different than other takes. Even familiar characters have lots of possibilities.

and frick them for that - if they had just let the guy make it the way he wanted, maybe the film would have ended up being better - or maybe not, but the point is - when the studios start interfering, the finished product is generally not good.

I'm sure it won't take long for WB to squander the good will from the Snyder Cut.

I think that judging by the events we just saw unfold, until we hear from Jason Kilar we're not sure what they're going to do going forward.

With regard to the original DCEU series (Man of Steel, Justice League, etc.), they still don't have a good grasp of what they are doing.

Wonder Woman, Shazam, and the Snyder Cut would all indicate an overall quality franchise.

...But WW84 comes out and it still looks like they are screwing things up.

It's for the best.

Let Leto's Joker exit on Snyder's high note.

Did you read the final paragraphs about black superman and "Latinx" which isn't even a word and Latinos hate the term.

Yeah, they're going to frick it all up and it will be just down the drain again for DC (and Marvel too because they're seem to be going down the same route).

Why not just focus on making good movies???

Lwt Snyder just helm everything. He set up the next 4 or 5 years of DC perfectly for them.

They already did even before the Snyder Cut was released

As current Black Panther comics scribe Ta-Nehisi Coates recently revealed, he will be writing another Man of Steel film, produced by J.J. Abrams, and that possibly does away with Henry Cavill's version of the character.

Warner Bros still chasing up behind Marvel and Disney.

Shouldve just followed the Marvel template from the beginning and maybe they wouldnt have to hope another reboot of Batman will save them smdh.

Marvel got folks saying Falcon and Nebula their fav heroes, shite wouldnt have happened 10-20 years ago and Warner Bros done fricked DC over and Ben affleck batman etc

Motherfrickaz dont even want to see a white superman the way they fricked up but they think a Black Superman gonna get them that Black Panther money hahaha lord jesus

Marvel almost literally handed DC the blueprints on how to make a cinematic universe for its characters. Instead, they wanted a DCU NOW, so they fricked the poodle and rushed everything. Marvel's success wasn't so much that they made good, entertaining movies a wide audience likes, it was developing the characters over a decade, so everyone knew and cared about what happened.

Ehh, Marvel was rushing things too with Phase 3. Ain't no one come away from Ant-Man 1 and 2 and Doctor Strange with any sort of emotional attachment to those characters. Those movies were made to strictly set the characters up for their involvement in the Infinity War story.

(I actually think Endgame would have been better served if they had made it the finale of Phase 4 and made Phase 4 the ramifications of the Snap/Blip played out in real time.)

Henry Cavill
Man they sure wasted a great casting choice for Superman. Should have used him so much more.

Would be like if Marvel pissed away the great casting of RDJ as iron man.

One thing Marvel nailed (among many things) is casting. Other than Brie Larson, I really can't think of a mistake they made in that department.

Am I the only one getting super hero fatigue
Wandavision was ok and the first episode of Falcon was meh

The only movie I'm looking forward to is Spider Man

DC has been so bad and I really could care less about another Batman reboot with Pattinson

We just need something to be excited about.
I want the conclusion of this story but it doesn’t look like we’re going to get it

Didn't people say that Wandavision was "meh" after episode 1? I'd give Falcon/Winter Soldier at least 3 episodes to see where it is going.

Yep. I'm officially out when it comes to comic book movies. Zack Snyder's Justice League was my last hurrah as it looks like they will not be completing the story he started moving forward. I also have absolutely zero interest in the MCU now that Iron Man and Captain America are gone. Plus...I feel like they wrapped up that story splendidly in Infinity War/Endgame, with Far From Home being a nice epilogue to the franchise.

I am seriously getting franchise fatigue and am looking for something - anything - that is original.
