A discussion I was having with someone. Here's what I've come up with so far. Some of them may be wrong.

Alabama: Auburn Final Four in 2019
Alaska
Arizona: Bibby, Simon upset Kentucky for NC
Arkansas: Hogs beat Duke for NC
California: Too many to count. You pick one.
Colorado: Colorado reaches Final Four in 1942
Connecticut: UConn beats Duke for first NC
Delaware
Florida: Florida wins 1st of back-to-back NCs
Georgia: GT reaches final in 2004
Hawaii
Idaho
Illinois: Loyola beats Cincinnati for 1963 NC
Indiana: IU last unbeaten team in 1976
Iowa: Iowa reaches final in 1956
Kansas: Lots of choices--I'll go with Danny & the Miracles
Kentucky: You pick one
Louisiana: toss-up. I'll go with the 1986 11 seed to the Final Four
Maine
Maryland: Maryland wins NC in 2002
Massachusetts: Holy Cross wins 1947 NC
Michigan: Magic over Bird in 79
Minnesota: Don't know. Final Four vacated in 97
Mississippi: Mississippi State Final Four in 96
Missouri: Don't know. Surpisingly sparse
Montana
Nebraska: Creighton Elite Eight in 1941
Nevada: UNLV NC in 1990
New Hampshire: Dartmouth reaches finals in 1944
New Jersey: Seton Hall reaches finals in 1989
New Mexico: NMSU Final Four in 1970
New York: Melo and Syracuse win NC
North Carolina: NC State upsets Houston
North Dakota
Ohio: Cincinnati/Ohio State play for NC in 61 (and 62)
Oklahoma: Oklahoma A&M (State) wins 1945 NC
Oregon: Oregon wins first NC
Pennsylvania: Villanova beats Georgetown
Rhode Island: URI 1998 Elite Eight
South Carolina: USC 2017 Final Four
South Dakota
Tennessee: Memphis State plays for NC in 1973
Texas: Texas Western NC in 1966
Utah: Utah wins 1944 NC
Vermont: Vermont upsets Syracuse in the first round in 2005
Virginia: Virginia wins 2019 NC
Washington: Gonzaga reaches finals in 2017
West Virginia: WVU plays for 1959 NC
Wisconsin: Marquette wins 1977 NC
Wyoming: Wyoming wins 1943 NC

Lou Henson (of bad combover and Illionis' fame) took New Mexico State to the 1970 Final Four and lost to UCLA. Played Bob Lanier and St Bonaventure in consolation game.

That always makes me sad because Morrison looks like a special ed kid and it so it breaks my heart to see him crying like that. A similar heartbreaker is Stanford and Mark Madsen stealing one late from Jim Harrick and Rhode Island in 1998.

Ok this is strange

A post by lsutiger1992 that isn’t riddled with white guilt and an accompanying SJW message

Well done sir.

See, I am not one dimensional. Clowns like you should do the same but you can’t because you are blinded by rage and dogma.

You and your friends probably think I started this thread to put Texas Western down as Texas' moment because of my "SJW agenda."

And you’d be surprised to know where my politics actually stand.

For Indiana - the last undefeated team was 76, not 87. The 87 team was the Keith Smart shot.

Vermont - probably this - when they beat Cuse in the first round.

Yeah. The unbeaten team was a typo.

Probably the Sutton Final Four was bigger for the Program The 94 was expected

That was in the 70's not Coach's team

Mississippi: Mississippi State Final Four in 96

The sneak away team is more important

Fixed typo for Indiana. My mistake. Added Vermont, New Mexico and Colorado.

I mostly just went with the deepest runs. But point taken. Part of me thinks that Gonzaga's first Elite Eight appearance was "bigger" than their NC appearance. That was the catalyst for what we see now.

Mostly. I'm slightly right of center on many things, but when the alt-right gets on here repeating their talking points, I kinda just start riffing.

Alaska - kept thinking Trajan Langdon the Alaska Assassin and that historic 1999 Duke team that fell short.

Colorado - from Wiki - “ Arguably the greatest team in CU Basketball history was the 1940 squad which not only got invited to the NCAA Tournament but to the NIT Tournament as well. The Buffs won the more prestigious at the time NIT Tournament, which leads some to claim that the 1940 team was National Champs.[5] In 1942, the Buffs lost in the NCAA Tournament Championship game to the Stanford Cardinal, which is the school's all-time best finish in that tournament.”

Alaska is impossible, they don’t even have a D1 school.

Maine has never played in the Tournament.

You mean to tell me a school with 28 NCAA Tournament appearances has never had a one shining moment?! (Rhetorical question — Mizzou has woefully underachieved in March)

If I had to pick one though, I’d say our victory in the 2009 Sweet 16 against #2 Memphis would be it...put up 102 points to advance to the Elite Eight. But yeah, as you said it’s pretty sparse overall.

I would say Wisconsin's 2015 runner up was bigger. Marquette is always an afterthought when it comes to the state.

Remember going to a college bar in Columbia 10 or so years ago, and they had a memorabilia wall celebrating "that one time when we were #1 in basketball for a week in 1987" or some year like that. That was kinda sad.
