If Patrick Reed had asked for relief from the sprinkler head on the 16th green like Dechambeau did, how large would the meltdown from the social media mob have been?

If a player brings over a rules official and asks for a ruling, I have no issue with the result.

Problem is that Patrick would probably just do it before asking for relief.

Wind is at a steady 25+ mph. The early groups are getting eaten up out there. I say the winning number is -11. Holding a Kokrak 40/1 ticket so I’m hoping for a miracle
-11 won.
only a couple were below par at -1 on sunday including the champion.

You mean Rory Mcllroy, don't you? Patrick Reed called the official over and asked for a ruling. Rory had the same situation come up, the same day and didn't ask for an official. CBS gives Reed a 15-minute documentary the next day and Rory is praised. PGA golf has always been the biggest hypocrites in sports.

Rory Mcllroy,
I hope he catches so much flack this week after what he pulled at the Players last year.

Before Reed got to the ball he asked an official if the ball bounced. The answer was NO. The officials, the next day, during the CBS inquisition clearly stated that Reed did everything correctly. They also said he went beyond what he had to do. It was only the CBS hypocrites at that point that were determined to make their point the hard way.

Faldo was intent on making Reed look bad. It was obvious. Then Nantz piled on unexpectantly.

What was ironic is that CBS decided to have their own PGA official this season during their telecast. He starts out on Sunday, the way he left it Saturday. Reed did everything right. That he went beyond what he needed to do in that situation. Jim Nantz was the culprit. The PGA officials then came out in writing and it was again reported on Sunday that Reed didn't need to ask an official but did so anyway. Something Mcllroy did not choose to do. Nantz, when confronted with Rory having the same situation said, Rory deserves the benefit of the doubt.
What does the benefit of the doubt have to do with it when the officials just said Reed went above and beyond what he needed to do and took it a step future than Rory did in the same situation? Can the PGA possibly look more self-righteous?
Then Nick Faldo and all the commentators lined up and spoke about what Reed did wrong anyway. Not one of them looked comfortable doing it. If anyone's integrity is on display here it's the CBS hypocrites that were hoping to sabotage Reed's final round.
I was never, and I mean never, so happy to see a guy win a tourney in my life.

Likewise, other than the year he won the Masters and this board melted.
As I said earlier, I am hoping someone from Golf or NBC raises hell over Rory being a whiny bastard and shutting down the Players last year 24 hours after he said man up and play, I guess a 76 in the opener will make you be scared of Covid more than a 60's score
It was because of Rory the Players shut down.

CBS's golf broadcast team is trash compared to NBC.

He may be why they shut it down on Friday, but I doubt it was going to make it all 4 days anyway.

They were going to play it through Remember they had already made it no fans and only officials. They then also started temp checks the Wednesday before. The players and the The Players agreed to everything. Then Rory shoots his 76, starts whining. Then he gets the bratpack on his side and it was over. Nothing had changed from Thursday am until Thursday pm other than those 3 and specifically Rory being out of contention. If I remember correctly the leader was at -7?

They just can't stick to golf. Not sure why that is so hard for these people these days. And like you, I'm happy right now just watching the NBC telecast.

The only criticism I have of the NBC crew is Zinger. I did not particularly like Johnny but Zinger is so try hard. I mean good guy, good golfer, but something about him. I love Strange, you know he is a jerk, he knows he is a jerk, but at least there is the credibility of a multi major winner.

Hes still employed by the tour, what's he going to do throw his colleague under the bus on national TV?

They also called him a "true gentleman" when he was shoveling sand out from behind his ball in a bunker

Reed is a scum bag dude. 100%. One of those if you meet an a-hole in the morning, hes an a-hole, if you meet assholes all day you're the a-hole type guys.
