They are wasting money trying to force the usage of this existing facility for no other reason than it’s old and built in the 1920’s. Fact is the building is not fully functional without a great deal of reengineering. LSU’s needs would be served FAR BETTER if they would scrape the existing facility and build a brand new facility on such premium property. Somebody at LSU is trying to shove a square peg through a round hole by trying to force this existing facility to work. Bad idea !!

Buildings are repurposed all the time at a cheaper price than a new building.

I definitely played floor hockey when I was there, but if I recall that was played at a building nearer the Greek amphitheater than Long pool. That was almost 30 years ago, so....

They are renovating for roughly $25 million (probably more with private donations). The cost of tearing down a 100 year old building in the middle of campus and rebuilding a new one would be much more expensive and serve the same purpose

floor hockey was DEFINITELY in the huey long... the old wood floor behaved a lot like ice. slippery as hell! tons of fun though

Floor hockey. Not ice hockey. I played goalie on a couple of intermural floor hockey teams in the late '80s.

Played floor hockey there in the late ‘70s. Racquetball too. I remember it as a dark and depressing space. We called it The Dungeon.

I respectfully disagree. You could scrape that entire facility for a fraction of the cost. You could build a very large facility for $23M or $24M. That would be a nice size building. That’s a lot of money.

Besides the renovation, they are adding a multi story addition
You had better revisit your numbers. They are getting way more useable space this way and preserving history.

HPL is on the national register of historic buildings. Can’t just tear it down.

Maybe that’s my problem. I’m not really the sentimental type of guy. That old building doesn’t do anything for me. That particular spot on campus is prime realestate. I guess I like to see something more substantial there if possible. It having HPL’s name on it means nothing to me. It’s an inanimate object as I see it. Hopefully, I’m impressed with what the finished product and will proudly stand corrected. I hope that is the case.
