And it has been discussed here plenty. Sure, WBB isn't going to "make" money. But if you have a solid program, you can lose a hell of a lot less money than you once did....which is a net gain from where you are currently.

During the final four runs when LSU was averaging 5-6 K per game, they weren't turning a profit, but at least they had some revenue coming in to somewhat offset the losses.

Look at it this way. I think the number that has been posted for LSU WBB is roughly $4 million in losses per year.

During the final four years, you had the right coach, the right players, and a solid fan base. I would be willing to bet that LSU made close to $1,000,000 in revenue from ticket sales and concessions during those years when people were going to games.

That is money that is being left on the table right now by not having a solid program.

If you have to have it, then you might as well make an investment and try to be as good at it as you can. Not to turn a profit....but to try to minimize losses.

Women's basketball is the only sport outside of men's basketball, baseball, and football that at least has a CHANCE at producing revenue. Volleyball, soccer, track, swimming, etc. have ZERO chance to produce significant money. You have to do what you can to try to make as much money as you can from this program.

LSUGrad9295, you hit the nail on the head. You and I have discussed this on the board for probably close to ten years now. As you said, the program during the championship years did indeed average around 7,000 per game. I'd venture to say at that time they made a small profit. But then again, COLLEGE SPORTS ARE NOT HERE TO MAKE MONEY. The sooner that many of these cats on here understand that, the better.

Now, in terms of Nikki Fargas, yes................it IS time to move on. But let's not kid ourselves. When she was hired, it was a GOOD hire. She was one of the hot, up and coming coaches who'd had success at UCLA, a program that doesn't have the same level of support that LSU had. I thought at the time it was a GREAT hire (although I at the time I would've preferred Jeff Walz), and the salary, if you wanted a great coach, was market value. Her first team at LSU finished 23-11 (10-6 in the SEC) AND made it to the SEC tournament championship game, compared to Chancellor's last team that finished 19-13 (8-8 in the SEC) and didn't make it to the post season. Her second season the team finished 22-12 (10-6 in the SEC), and made it to the sweet sixteen in the NCAA tournament. The next season, the team finished with a similar overall record and made it to the sweet sixteen for a second year in a row. At that point it appeared it was a great hire. From that time to now, she's been unable to come close to that success. I've said for a few years now, that her biggest shortcoming is recruiting............................while we've watched Dawn Staley become a recruiting juggernaut.

At this point, I think she's maxed out.........and it sucks because it appeared she had a bright future. Alas, she's just like all of Pat's proteges.............................just average. It's time for Woodward to pull the plug and go out and get a championship level coach. And yes..................................it will cost LSU AT LEAST as much as Nikki's salary, maybe more. But LSU deserves to be among the elite in women's basketball, not mediocre.
