But a ton of the guys in that era were also world class athletes. Arnold Palmer, Snead, Gary Player were all physical studs.

Yup. Palmer could drive it 300 yards with a wooden driver the size of today's putter heads and a 100-compression balata covered ball.

Jack had to compete weekly with a dozen extremely good players.

Tiger had to deal with hundreds of world class players weekly.

For those that dont know, back in Jack's day, alot of pro's were "part time". They sold insurance on the side, etc.

Today's professionals are world class athletes with trainers, nutritionists, sports psychologists, etc.

It would be like saying Pistol Pete was a better basketball player than Michael Jordan.

Lkke Jack, Pistol Pete was incredible.
Jordan was better though. Like Tiger.

what type of equipment do you think Tiger was using as an amateur when he was smoking the ball 330+ of the tee and hitting 2 irons 285? The newer equipment in the last 15 years or so you're talking about actually hurt Tiger, not helped him, because it minimized the separation between the elite and the good pro golfers. When all clubs became so much more forgivable, mainly the driver, it leveled the playing field quite a bit. Jack has said this many times too.

This was his bag when he won his first Masters. Tiny club heads no larger that the persimmon woods of Palmer's era, basic Mizuno blades (he still uses essentially the same irons btw), cleveland wedges, and the same scotty putter he's been using his entire life
