Timing of "Big Time" Commitments

I am a little concerned about LSU waiting on the "big time" commitments from the likes of McFarland, Richardson, Debose, etc. that are 50-50 at best and the possibility of losing out on high quality recruits interested in LSU like C. Michael, Sentimore, Wooten, etc.
If these guys get tired of waiting and the first three decide to go elsewhere what does that leave us with to choose from? I'm not second guessing the decision to hold out on these guys - they are the best of the best, but hate to lose out on guys that are highly rated and WANT to play for LSU now.
Is this a legit concern or am I reading too much into it?

You are right to be concerned. There is a delicate balance to be struck. Depending upon the decisions of guys like Randle, McFarland, Loston and Richardson, Miles may look like a genuius or a fool.

One point to remember though is that, presumably, these guys know where they stand with LSU. I believe, particularly with Michael but the same can be said about Sentimore, that they have held off on committing to another school because they are willing to wait on an LSU offer. If they are willing to wait then what's the problem? These guys talk to the coaches every week. Our coaches will know when they'll either have to make an offer or lose them to another school. So far they haven't made it to that point yet. Wooten may be the exception, but there may also be more than just Debose that's above him on the coach’s board. That's just my opinion though.

Also, it is widely assumed that we will only take McFarland or Sentimore, but not both. And that McFarland would be the top choice. That may not be the case. We could take both. I don't know which is correct, but it's something to keep in mind.
I believe the only certain "either/or" is at RB.

Ya know, that's true; but that's how you get the Patrick Perterson's, Terrance Tollivers, and even Joe McNight's of the world. You win some, you lose some. Have faith in "The Hat" and rest easy!!! It'll all take care of itself in the end.
Now, do I feel your pain? Yes. I wish we'd take CM AND DS NOW. I'm not too worried about losing out on Wooten, but I'd take CM and Sentimore, get JM and RR "IF" they committ and worry about the numbers later. That's just my HO!!!

It is actually a good problem to have. We can afford to basically go after only elite prospects. Will we miss out on some really good prospects by doing this? Probably... We are so loaded and deep though, it really doesn't hurt as bad when we do.

i didnt realize this was an either or case. i thought we were willing to take DS as a DE? i want JM b/c hes a super talent and good kid, but i also love kids who want nothing more than a chance to play for the home state tigahs. i want both- i hope thats not totally out of the equation

Did you read the rest of the post? My point was that we may take both. I hope we do.

There is nothing to worry about.
Look at it this way...LSU is the National Government.
The government only lets the public know a little bit of information to appease the country b/c there it isn't necessary for them to know all the details. If the public did know all the details, then it could actually do more harm than good.
The same thing goes in recruiting (except someone's life isn't at risk). We only know a small portion of what is available. The coaches devote themselves to this; it's what they do for a living. They've got 10x as much information as we do on this board and the pay sites. Just put some faith in them and go for the ride.

i agree if they have some guys that want to play for lsu then give them a time limit

Lynxcat, you are exactly right! This class is done except for a few loose ends. Even in those situations the coaches have the alternatives in line.
The coaches need to be given credit for putting together one of the best classes in LSU history.
In the July camp, with all the national studs on campus, what do you think the coaches were doing? Trust me they 'seized the moment'.

Yeah, it's a good problem to have no doubt. I just hate the idea of potentially losing out on two great prospects if the best one decides not to come......especially if the odds of him coming are 50-50 at best.
