doesn't mean a black/female won't immediately go for the race/sex card, a pretty safe bet she'll get a settlement out of it, Tulane can't defend itself too strenuously

You are correct, La is a employees at will state unless there is a employment contract. The position this woman held probably came with a employment contract with very specific conditions that would have to be met to result in her termination.

True but they need to be able to prove they didn't fire due to discrimination or they'll get sued.
So in essence they need a legit reason to fire you to cover their arse.
