I'm honestly surprised splatoon 3 got announced for 2022 and we got nothing on any of the games that are very likely supposed to come out at the end of the year.

My son plays the daylight out of Mario Cart and Mario Party. Was looking for some info on possible new games in that direction but maybe later in the year.

Zelda and Metroid are big enough titles that they will warrant their own Directs.

Nintendo often layers announcements like this.

It's what keeps fans interested, but also infuriates them. Splatoon 3 is big news, a lot of people will and should be excited, but I don't think anyone was talking about it. Everyone was talking about BotW2 and Metroid 4. So, in Nintendo's philosophy, it makes sense to announce this instead, and keep people wanting the others. They know fans are basically Day 1 purchases for those games. They don't have to build excitement anymore.

So triple that excitement with Splatoon 3. Now there are 3 tentpole games over the next 24 months or so to be excited about.

And everyone knows we are expecting a Kart sequel and Odyssey sequel, but neither is confirmed. Those nuggets will come later.

Think of a big Zelda direct that also shows Splatoon 3 footage, then teases the next Kart. That's major, major news. That's what they set up for.
