Has anyone else seen this documentary on Netflix? I stumbled across it last night and was very entertained. Hopefully, it was all real. It's the story of three guys who attempt to purchase a Russian submarine to smuggle cocaine.

It's a fun watch. The Russian guy "Tarzan" and the Miami businessman were both believable. The Cuban guy didn't come across as credible.

I'm claustrophobic and yet I love submarine movies and documentaries.
I'll check this one out.

Well, he is a con man.

100% genuine. He comes over from a communist country and is more than willing to engage in criminal behavior. However, he finds out the USA is AWESOME compared to the USSR and tries to live out the biggest, obnoxious, lavish American life he can

I'm kidding.
That does sound like a cool story. Will watch.
Now it's posted for me as well.

My whole thing about this. How the frick did they think they were going to hide a fricking diesel sub from the US Navy.
Narco subs just being dragged whatever big whoop. Navy don't care unless a bomb being towed in on it to a real port.
But a fricking Soviet Sub which we know the sounds of intimately. You go on a literal cocaine fueled joy ride with that and expect to not be hit up by the US Navy parking on top of you?
God I miss the 80s and early 90s.

Watched this again recently and went down a bit of a rabbit hole to see where the guys are now.
Spoilers...
All three of them could not stay out of trouble, shocker, I know.
Juan for weed.
Tarzan for pimping in Panama.
Tony for drugs. He was on the run forever, the plane he’s on in the documentary is in South Africa, but he was caught in Italy and extradited back to the US.
Edited to add: If you liked this doc, another good one, somewhat along the same vein, is The Seven Five

Watched it a few years ago and loved it. Incredible story and entertaining as hell.
The Cuban Hitman was cool as shite. Heard US officials finally captured him and brought him to the US for trial. Like Tony Soprano, an absolutely horrible human being who managed to be likable despite his barbarism.

Tony Ester? (Didn’t remember his name in my previous post). Dude was on America’s most wanted and was a fricking murderer. How much more credibility do you want?

This documentary was basically a comedy for me. I laughed out loud through most of Tony Ester’s dialogue. That dude is hilarious. Especially his parts about Tarzan and the sauna.
