Dems Cory Booker & Ayanna Pressley reintroduce "Baby Bonds" Bill

quote:

“Under the bill, which is being led by Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.), anyone born after Dec. 31, 2021, have a government-run ‘American Opportunity Account’ with $1,000 set up for them when they’re born,” Forbes reported.

The accounts will accrue about three percent interest and the government would deposit up to $2,000 in those accounts every year until the person turns 18.

“The amount deposited depends on the household’s income level, and families will not receive any additional funds if they make more than 500% of the poverty line, which, in 2020, would be approximately $131,000 for a family of four,” the article continued.

Individuals could begin taking money from their account when they turn 18 so they could spend it on things such as college, a down payment on a home, or starting a small business

quote:

Booker said, “I’m hoping @JoeBiden will include Baby Bonds in the next economic recovery package.”

“By investing in our children, we can build our economy back better while largely closing the racial wealth gap. Proud to be leading the charge on this with @AyannaPressley”

Step right up folks... All you have to do is plant seeds in a dirty bitch.

I’m actually ok with that! I think it should include healthcare costs!

About 385,000 babies are born each day

As some point one might come to the conclusion that this encourages more frick trophies and de-incentivizes anyone to get a fricking job.

This would be the issue.

There are about 3.8 million babies born a year in the US. That would be 3.8 billion dollar investment the first year. After 18 years and assuming that birth rate number stays about the same we are talking about roughly 65 billion annually being given away to the citizens.

I really have no problem with this and it would make this country a better place. I would rather see Americans get the money than some of the bullshite we waste money on.

I counted every child born which would actually not be the case but I think their income number is low by only giving it to certain people. They have to give it to everyone.

About 385,000 babies are born each day - That adds up to more than 140 million a year.

Somebody put an extra zero in there somewhere.

There are around 4 million live births a year in the us

So the kids get about $45k at 18? This is delusional and wasteful and assumes that whites all get this kind of sweetheart deal after hs from parents. Not true.

And if you are a kid whose parents make 140k combined you get only $1500.

And the parents who make 140k pay the taxes to support this that the poor parents dont.

Plus grants for college for low income?

I would not go for this.

Put a school attendance and grade incentive together that motivates better habits and excellence and cut that check way down( 5k) and make it payable for a house or land or mutual funds only (something appreciable) until 25 and tie it to the local cost of living and then I am interested in listening.

Where's Hank?

He got angry with me a couple of months ago when I said Democrats are only about handouts.

He said that wasn't true.

Holy shite.

The people most likely to benefit from this crap won’t spend time raising their kids right. So let’s give 18 year olds, and all of their impulsiveness, thousands of dollars to blow on BS. This is laughably bad but when has that ever stopped the dims?

An entire industry will spring up to facilitate early access to these funds - like little tiny poverty-stricken reverse mortgage folks.
