Imagine Messi or Ronaldo committing their entire prime to a club that plays in France.

Dude was supposed to take the mantle over as the best player in the world.

Not aimed at you here DS, i'm sure you're thrilled, it's just odd to me. Most elite footballers want to play against the best in their best years. M'bappe is already trying to get out

Playing in France isn’t nearly as terrible as some of you think. I know the English media hates L1 and since the American fan takes most of their cues from England that filters down over here. It I promise L1 isn’t looked down on in the same way in other parts of the world.

The best players, aside from PSG, leave France. You don’t see Italians leaving in their prime to join Marseille or Spaniards leaving to join Lyon. Ligue 1 is an exporter of young talent

And I don’t watch sky. My exposure to Brit commentary comes on NBCSN and they don’t mention L1 at all. I watched every weekend when I had bein

The quality of play in Italy isn’t all that much better than France and the PSG dominance is less than what Bayern has done in Germany.

Not saying there’s no gap at all but it’s not nearly as significant as those who never watch L1 think.

French teams can’t pay as much so you don’t see as much movement into France outside of PSG but the relative quality of younger players more than makes up for it.

Also for most footballers the quality of life in Paris is better than anywhere outside London.

LMAOO nonsense

It’s a farmer’s league that has good young talent which leaves first chance they get

You always spout this nonsense about the English media shitting on the French League

That’s a bold face lie

It’s on on BT and no one is shitting on it from the other networks

What a terrible rebuttal comparing an entire league to a club that has been struggling to even make the champions league the last 8 years

It's 2

17-18- Bayern, RM, Liverpool, Roma
18-19- Ajax, Barca, Liverpool, Spurs
19-20- Leipzig, PSG, Lyon, Bayern

The UEFA coefficient has Ligue 1 closer to the Portuguese league than the German League, much closer. PSG making the final last year was the first french team to do so since 1992. A dutch side and Portuguese side have won it in that time frame.

The french league is closer to Eredivisie and Liga NOS than EPL and LaLiga. An extremely top heavy league that will typically have a team or two that can compete with any on the continent, but is shite outside of the top 3. The top 3 is more fluid in France than Holland or Portugal, but the point remains that the mid table teams are shite.

None this year. I don't need to sit down and watch 3 matches per weekend to compare it to Portugal or Holland though. There are 3 teams (really 2 consistently) at the top and nobody outside of those wins any silverware in Europe. Hell, nobody inside the top 3 wins any european silverware- but you don't have a Fulham or Middlesbrough or Valencia or Bilbao or Espanyol or Werder Bremen level side from France competing in European finals. Mid table clubs.

England has had teams win the champions league and finish outside top 4 domestically. Spain, Italy, and Germany send teams from outside their big 3 deep into continental competitions on a yearly basis. Those teams often change. A french team has made a major final 3 times in the last two decades. Marseille twice and PSG once in. A french team has won the tournament 0 times in that time frame.

Russia x2
Ukraine
Turkey
Portugal X2
Netherlands

Have all had a team lift continental silverware.

This isn't even a debate dude. If it were such a great league compared to the others on the continent then the results would show that. They are closer to 6th and 7th than they are 4th when discussing the big leagues in Europe. That's just what they are as a league. If you want to come up with a genuine argument besides your own biased opinion, or "you don't even watch L1" then I'm all ears. I believe that the data speaks for itself though.

Lies, damn lies, and statistics

You’re essentially telling me about a movie you’ve never seen based only on its box office. You’re speaking from ignorance, which would be fine if you weren’t so convinced of how right you are.

And I never said L1 is as good as England or Spain or even close to it. I said it’s closer to Italy than most think, which is obvious if you actually watch the product.

Yes the bottom tier teams are pretty bad, mid table is fine though. Sampdoria and Udinese are not much better than Bordeaux and Montpellier, if at all.

No I’m not, I said I haven’t watched L1 this year. I’ve already said in this thread that I watched it all the time before bein was pulled from my streaming package.

The 7th team in the Serie A table is in the UCL knockouts for the second consecutive season. The 6th team is there as well. So is the 6th team in Germany, and the 7th team in Germany.

1 and 2 in France are the only teams left competing. I’m not using that in itself as a be all end all, but that is a trend that goes back a long time. Like I said, it’s a top heavy league.
