I'd suggest that "mental impairment" is what people refer to as crazy.

Maybe if I had put crazy in quotes it would have read better.
I think he is detached from a reality but not necessarily detached from reality as a whole. I do think his descent into the rabbit hole could result in impairment and if I worked with him or was his friend I would suggest seeking some help from the Georgia LAP program.
