You are correct. I had to look it up because I know the Navy's version just uses kinetic rounds, but the land-based version of the CIWS apparently does use an explosive round. That's also a light armor penetrator. That's also a tracer. That's also an incendiary round. That also has a self destruct feature so the rounds don't fall on things downrange.

I would love to know the tech behind the rounds. In WW2 they could change the fuse times of the flak rounds altitude wise. You know these have to be much more advanced.
