My wife and I are still looking at options for our 10 year anniversary in March. We canceled a trip to Jamaica because of the new CDC guidelines and started looking at other options. Key West is still an option but, I don’t know if it’s going to be our final choice due to the mask mandate and lack of beaches. My wife mentioned St Thomas and thanks to this board I told her if that’s what you’re wanting we should go to St John since it’s much better. I’ve been looking and I found a place I like between Trunk Bay and Cinnamon Bay. It’s supposed to be really secluded but, still a close drive to Cruz Bay. My question is what is the best area of St John to stay in? We do want to go out to eat but, we’re not opposed to cooking ourselves. The place I found had a million dollar view and a private walkway down to Peter Bay Beach. The ocean view is almost a must for any place we stay. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

That's a garden spot. Rent a jeep. The whole island is very accessible. One of my top 2 favorite getaways ever was a week staying right around the corner from what you describe.

Staying in Cruz Bay means you can walk to everything which is nice. The only exception is the beaches which you can hop on a free bus to get to.

That's my preference when I go but I can understand the want to be a little ways out.

Are there areas to park all along the island to explore the different beaches? It looks like the roads are real narrow and there may only be sporadic places to park on the side of the road that aren’t someone’s driveway.

The beaches all have parking with the exception of honeymoon. Be sure to head to the other side one day and eat at Skinny Legs. There are also some great hiking trails on the island.

If we decide to book this trip what side of the island is the best to stay on? Are the views and beaches any better on any one side than the other? I know Cruz Bay has the most businesses and tourists but, I’m not sure we would want to be in the middle of everything. Maybe just fairly close if we wanted to grab a bite to eat.

We always stay at this house overlooking Coral bay . Much more enjoyable way less crowded you’ll need a jeep to get around anyway. Just a more peaceful experience high up on that rim. Great mgr as well

The beaches are pretty much all on the north and northwest coast. There are no beaches at Coral Bay. The views are probably better there but there really aren't any bad views n the island. If you go take your passport so you can day trip over to Jost van Dyke.

Being in the middle of everything on St. John isn't that crowded and particularly not now.

Yes, Kenny Chesney and a bunch of other celebrities live there. A buddy of mine manages his island property and yacht.

I would love to do this but, this is the same reason we had to cancel our Jamaica trip. We would have had to take a Covid Test and it be negative within 3 days to get back to the US.

You also currently have to take a Covid Test within 5 days of traveling to the USVI

ETA: Wife got vacinated bc she works at the hospital and still has to get tested before we go in April

The house you mentioned sounds like its in a great location as those are two great beaches. Cruz Bay will be nice as it has plenty of bars and places to eat. St John is an awesome vacation

I’m sitting in the Blood Center as we speak to give blood. They test for antibodies. I never tested positive but, I think I may have had it a little over a month ago but didn’t get tested. USVI accepts a Positive antibody test within 4 months in lieu of the negative 5 day Covid test. If I have antibodies then that gives me a lot more flexibility than the 5 days prior to leaving for the trip.

I think so too. The view is amazing. The house isn’t as nice as others I’ve seen but, the view and private walking path down to the beach more than make up for it to me. I would like to have a pool but, that’s not a deal breaker.

yes! My 11 year old had a conversation with Seddy while there. Seddy was bombed out of his mind. My son thought it was hilarious.
