Mortal Kombat, produced by Todd Garner and Aquaman's James Wan, begins with a crucial piece of lore from the original games: the blood feud between the clans of Hanzo and Bi-Han (Warrior's Joe Taslim). The 10-minute opening sequence kicks off in feudal Japan, long before these fighters wielded supernatural abilities as Scorpion and Sub-Zero, and it ends in "a pretty nasty hand-to-hand combat" between the two, McQuoid says. It's why the first-time feature filmmaker cast Sanada and Taslim, two actors known for their martial arts prowess. "[Hanzo's] the leader of a ninja clan and he's strong, but also… at the beginning, he's a peaceful family man," Sanada says. "It is like a family drama with excitingly brutal fighting. That's the image of this movie for me," he adds.
The story of Bi-Han and Hanzo "needed to be told within the fight," McQuoid says. "There are some great camera moves to give it a bit of dynamism, that make it really enjoyable. We needed it to be really elemental and really brutal. It's not a shiny film… I wanted the dirt and the grime to come through."

"There are some crazy fatalities," Tan confirms. "We've picked a couple of iconic ones. There's a lot of really cool signature moves that you'll see, a lot of Easter eggs that we snuck into the film, but there are some really badass fatalities that I can't wait to see on the big screen. They're brutal, man. They, they don't hold back." At the same time, McQuoid "didn't want to get into NC-17 territory." He notes, "It's amazing how quickly you can get there. It doesn't take much." At least, not for a Mortal Kombat movie.

There has been a heavy emphasis on the hard R, gore, and fatalities. I suspect we’re going to get a red band trailer.

I suspect we're gonna see Sub Zero rip someone's head off with the spine still attached and its gonna be awesome.

They better treat Scorpion better in this one.

Why did they create a new character who seems like he is basically Johnny Cage instead of just having Johnny Cage?

Re Scorpion
I wonder if they will give him the back back forward move for if you want to win the fight the chicken shite way.

I don't understand this either and don't really care about the new character. I would bet people would care a lot more if they just had Johnny Cage.

Looks kinda low budget in terms of production values. But if it’s badass, it’s badass and that’s all I want.
Also, Goro better be in this bitch.

1000% that by the end of the movie he takes on the stage name of Johnny Cage.

I hope so. Would be disappointing not to have Johnny Cage in the movie.

Looking forward to seeing it. Hoping they can do Raiden right... I used to whip some arse with his teleport back in the day.

Would like to see Kung Lao And Kabal, and a proper Baraka (not that abomination that was in annihilation)

I’ll be honest, when you started the thread I was at work and didn’t even open the article, now I’m watching game of thrones (season 3 ep 2).
I’m assuming that Kung Lao is the cousin of Liu Kang and not the “great Kung Lao” that Defended earthrealm from Shang Tsung a couple hundred years before the first tournament?

The set photos and plot actually seem to feel kind of like the original 1995 film... Which is both a cheesy mess, but, in turn, awesome at the same time.
I get that semi-low budget vibe as well, which most martial arts films alswys had in the 90s. That's a good thing really. I also figure it's going to be a cgi shot show... But, oh well.
