Looking to plan for 2022. Just starting the process on this what will likely be once in a lifetime bucket list hunt. While pricing is a thought it is way down on the list. Top priority is killing. Next priority is convenient to airports and onsite lodging.

I have one option now with Ongargo’s. But I have still yet talked to anyone who has been there.

I’m expecting this will cost about the same as an Argentina dove hunt. 4 to 6 thousand. Full trip there and back. Am I off?

Hopefully by then this covid is gone.

If you don't mind, I'd like to piggyback on this and see if anyone has any information on guided duck hunts in the northern US.

Have friends who go every year with Wrightway Outfitters and I even went few years ago. Jeff is very passionate about hunting, so you definitely stay pumped up the whole time with him at the helm.

Look into Eagle Lakes Ranch in Othello Washington for an equally nice adventure for less cost. My dad and I hunted with them right after Christmas and absolutely destroyed the mallards. They also outfit up into Alberta. If you are stuck on going up to Canada then Birdtail Waterfowl would be an option in Manitoba. I think Ongaro would also be a good option and where we will likely be going next.

Hunted with this guy several times. Some of the best duck/goose hunting I've ever been on. President of Alberta DU hunts with him.

Western Canada Waterfowl Outfitters

All lay down blind open field hunting. Its been a couple years but last time we hunted with him, most of his fields are right out of Calgary so really convenient.

Plan for a Grand a day, lodging, meals and hunting.
Another G for flight and rental car.

Frontline Waterfowl and Swift River Outfitters are the 2 that I've had great experiences with.

If you go with a 6-8 pack of guys you can plan on 100 bird days, am and pm hunts. Pretty damn good up there.

Both of those outfits are within 3 hours of major airports.

I went with Ranchland Outfitters, they are on Facebook, two years ago. I have a friend that goes with them every year. I also said it would be a once a lifetime bucket list trip but I was planning on going back this year but Covid cancelled those plans. We went in September, hunted 3 days and killed 7 man limits of mallards and dark geese everyday plus 3 snows, 318 birds in total. I ended up spending right around $5k (hunt, flight, car rental, gas, food while traveling etc.) Check them out, I hope to go back next season.

I would highly recommend against this. The birds move. I have a friend that goes every year without a guide, he's been going for 10-15 years or so. There's not enough hunters up there, so if you are reasonably nice person the farmers let almost anyone hunt their fields. Problem is, the birds move a lot. This friend stays with a farmer he's made friends with and the farmer helps him call whoever's fields they are working. So its not like the USA where everything is leased up or private. The problem is some years they are 50 or more miles away.

Point being, if you go with someone with their own lodge and close to an airport IMO you may be risking your hunting if the birds aren't there. I'd go with someone that follows the birds as finding a place to hunt them is not an issue usually.

ETA: I believe ammo is very expensive in Canada? I can't remember the laws but if you can bring your own.

chaaawwwww

I just took a look at his pricing. Plan for well over a G a day! That bird cleaning fee and shell box price is about to get pricey!

More power to you if you got it to burn man, hell yea.

I am curious of this as well. It might be worth it if he can get you on the numbers he kills in his show.

Once in a lifetime hunt im relaly not worried about the price of bird cleaning and shells running up cost. If I have to pay 300 a day and can kill 100 birds I’m all for it. But I will say I’m not going to keep shooting snows running that bill up. 8 ducks and whatever the limit is on dark geese a day is all I need

I hunted with the outfitter I recommended for 7 years while I was up in Canada. Most of his fields are around Calgary so you can actually hotel/dinner in Calgary and 20-25 minute drive to hunt in the morning. He does have some fields in Lethbridge but I never had to go. I would rec calling and talking to the guide(s).

And as far as the ammo, everything is more expensive in Canada but its a whole lot easier if you just buy your ammo up there instead of hauling it. Its a 5000 round limit per Canada but 10 lb limit with most airlines so around 5 boxes. I just always bought my shells up there for ease.

Shells and cleaning were included when we went. You could rent a gun for around $50 a day but we all brought our own. The town we stayed in was about 2 hours from the airport in Edmonton. But like the previous poster said, the birds move. When we went, 2 years ago, Ranchland had access to 60,000+ acres. He had 10 guys whose only job was to scout the birds all day so he could decide where we would hunt the next day. Two of our hunts were 30-45 minutes from the town where we stayed. Also if you go early, at least where we were, snows aren’t down yet. We only shot 3 in three hunts and they were flying with specks.

Also remember their season starts and ends earlier than ours. Big ducks & goose in September and over by mid-December. Take it from someone that lived and hunted up there, you want to try and go in September/October. I did a couple late hunts in November in white out conditions. We hit our limits but it was pretty miserable.

I’m looking at mid October hoping by then there will be some green on the mallard drakes. And I am also seeing that is when you can start shooting geese in the afternoons.
