Yeah anyone who’s confused by this show really didn’t research it much before watching. It’s been apparent through all the promotional material that it would adapt a 50s sitcom at least to some degree whether through wandas powers or through some sort of mental imprisonment if you use a little deduction about her character.

I was watching the second episode and couldn’t figure out how Dottie looked familiar to me. All I kept thinking was... I seem to remember thinking this person was hot, long ago...

It’s Anya from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Emma Caulfield.

I felt like a dummy that I didn’t recognize her.

You shouldn’t have to research a new show to enjoy it. After the first episode my wife asked if the entire series was like this (a lame sitcom parody). In contrast, The Mandalorian had the task of drawing in a broad audience that wasn’t entirely made up of super-knowledgeable fans, and they hit it out of the park.

Technically, the show will evolve to mirror certain shows from different eras to show evolution through character and plot development. It’s a bit of a trope, or metaphor, that lends to make sense of what is going on inside of Wanda’s head. The mystery of the show is A) What has happened to get her to this point and B) Where does it all lead to

It reminds me a bit of Lost in this aspect. It’s obvious that Wanda has an idea of what’s going on in her world, but it’s the little things that don’t belong there like the helicopter and the beekeeper that set off her alarms.
