Too much focus on women in Olympics coverage?

I think so.
There was not a single minute of coverage devoted to "male" sports like boxing, wrestling, or weightlifting in prime time, while we were subjected to 4 hours a night of pixie-gymnasts and at least an hour of bimbo-beach-volleyball.
Have you guys turned into such p-whips that women decide what you will watch on TV every night and the networks cater to that so as to cash in on ratings......or is there just a feminist conspiracy at work among network executives.....or is something else at work?
I certainly don't remember this imbalance in previous Olympic broadcasts and doubt you would find it in the coverage offered in other countries, either.

It's simple. They televise what the most people will watch - men or women.

So you would rather watch guys all night long than girls with great bodies in skin tight clothing?
P.S. Olympic Boxing sucks dick to watch. So does weightlifting.

as for your examples, gymnastics and volleyball were two sports in which the us had high expectations for medalling. i think that would have more to do with it. even playing non-US-involved games would then serve to showcase their competition.
but as for the rest, i don't think there's more coverage for the women's sports
even if so, what of it? do women's olmypics feats deserve not to be seen?

i agree in the sense that most people dont find it appealing to watch. but only because they dont know the intricacies involved in those sports.
although gymnastics is very intricate as well it is much more appealing to the human eye than some heavyweight guy trying to clean and jerk 550 plus pounds.
both are hard to do and neither suck but gymnastic is much more entertaining to the average person.

Seen? Yes. Harped on and emphasized? Hell, no.
Women are inferior athletes to men, which is why women's anything will never attract the kind of interest that football, men's basketball, baseball or anything else will....
Pretty simple, really.....

I respect Boxing, but amateur Boxing sucks and Olympic amateur Boxing sucks dick.
For weightlifting I understand the fact that it involves a lot of technique to do what they, but again its just boring to watch.

NBC started focusing on women in 1996 because most of the live coverage during the day would be watched by "American Soccer Moms (read: housewives)." There was actually very little live coverage of anything in prime time, even gymnastics.
Why else would they hire John Tesh as an anchor?

They are covering the events where Americans are most likely to medal. If you are strictly watching prime-time coverage, this is only magnified. There's plenty to see on MSNBC, USA, and even the Spanish-language channels if you want some variety. How many Americans received medals in boxing, wrestling, weightlifting, etc.... I've been watching fairly equal coverage on track & field, followed by men's volleyball tonight....
By the way - anybody who got up this morning to watch the women's soccer gold medal game -
I was so glad to be home alone cuz I was screaming at the TV like I was on fire!

I'm fairly certain that every single fight in boxing has been on tv on cnbc and universal.
Also, I have never watched gymnastics before this years olympics, but I've got to say, I watched pretty much all of the coverage of the gymnastics and it was pretty good. The Americans are very good, and anything that is entertaining, that we are good and and have a chance to win gold is worth watching imho.
Also, olympic boxing is boring as shite, as is the wrestling.

The Olympics have by far the highest female audience of any sport televised in the US. Yes, more women might technically sit in front of the TV next to men for the Superbowl, etc., but they don't really give a shite. Women are actually interested in the Olympics. Gymnastics is an iconic sport associated with the Games. Get over it. And personally, I thought the beach volleyball match last night was pretty exciting.
As for boxing, I have watched it every single day on the other channels, and often repeated more than once. I think I've seen more boxing than anything else.
Not that I disagree, but maybe you're just too much of an a-hole to appreciate anything, much less women's sports. Good luck wih that.
