Per ESPN

I thought the numbers were interesting and figured I'd share. Keep in mind the receivers Chase was competing against for catches, in comparison to who Smith competed against.

J. Chase (2019)
Rec: 84 Yds: 1,780 TD: 20 Avg: 21.2

D. Smith (2020/1 game left)
Rec: 105 Yds: 1,641 TD: 20 Avg: 15.6

add JJ with 111/1540/ 18.

Imagine if Chase was not sharing with JJ and Marshall.

Interesting. Chase had longer receptions, but fewer of them. Smith is faster, but Chase is bigger and stronger. I wonder who will be the more successful pro?

I really don't get the comparison of 2019 stats to 2020 stats, regardless of Chase opting out.

True comparison is 2019 to 2019 where Smith was:
REC 68
YDS 1256
TD 14
AVG 18

Advantage... Chase.

Smith all day long.

Best WR to enter the draft since Megatron.

I don't know what to make of his Heisman. He was the best player in college football this year but what does that say about Chase, he didn't even get an invite in 2019.

Down year?
First WR Heisman by default?

only asking the question, not suggesting Smith is not deserving.

I think what’s in question is that the talking heads have not stopped gushing over Smith and his numbers this season; when LSU had 2 receivers with similar stats in 2019.

Competition was definitely different but yet Bama played a soft SEC schedule in 2020

Smith deserves it but Covid took out all the front runners.

Field played 6 games and Lawrence played 8 (voting happened before the playoffs I think)

I am going to go on record right now and say that Chase is faster than Smith.
