It’s been incredible for us. Only problem is I need another one.

I’m thinking about getting the same ruger American in 6.5 Grendel.

Got to have a threaded barrel bc I use a suppressor with the kids

What boolits are yall using? I know a few people who have them and hunt with them but haven't shot a deer with theirs yet.

My buddy hand loads them for me. I’ll find out what they are and let y’all know.

Like I’ve said on here before it’s a catch 22 bc they kill great but they don’t leave much of an exit if any.

So far it hasn’t been an issue bc the kids have drilled them and they use a field pod.

I don’t know if it’d be my number one pick if we weren’t in a box.

High Tide that’s what I shoot. Never shot a deer with it only pigs. Bringing it this weekend for afternoon hunts.

I shoot subs in mine from Discrete Ballistics. They are deadly under 100 yards and super accurate.

Thanks man, I feel really blessed. We’ve got 3 bucks and a doe with my three kids and got my nephew on a mature buck.

It’s not like we have a deer farm either. For instance the three mature bucks we killed I had pictures of late summer, but they’d only show up once every couple weeks for a night or two. Never consistent.

It’s like the times we’ve gone have been when they’ve happened to be there. That being said I try to only go when it’s perfect and hit some other spots when the winds iffy, but we still got very lucky.

Pulled a fast one this am since it’s later in the season, got my wife to get up and drive us and drop us off so we could walk in as opposed to parking the truck. Maybe it made the difference and maybe not.

Got a handful of 3.5-4.5 year olds left that I really hope make it to next year. A couple 10s, an 8, and a 9.

Took a nice 10 point this year with my 300 blk using Hornady 110 gr V-max at 70 yds. Flipped it over on it’s back, one spasm, then rolled over dead. No exit wound so all of the energy was dumped inside the deer. It was devastating.

Want to try it on some coyotes!

Absolutely it could. Like you prob believe, I believe they pattern your sounds and movement. Good strategy. Thanks for posting too. Its been fun to read about all the success yall have had.

Thanks, I’m a firm believer in the “you don’t pattern deer, deer pattern you” philosophy.

I’ll add that I’m far from an expert but I love being out and learning and observing. One thing I’ve observed is there’s been a major shift in our success and our neighbors the last few years. I think one major reason is early season pressure. They used to be far more successful than us but we all bow hunted. The last 8 years or so I haven’t bow hunted bc my kids have ball/birthdays/etc every weekend and it’s just too dang hot for me now. Our neighbors still bow hunt and I think our place is where they tend to live from oct through hunting season where they haven’t been messed with. So if possible and depending on access if you can keep your bow hunting spots away from your rifle you can kinda keep some deer fresh like rotating duck holes.

Once again, might be a huge difference might not mean anything. Just an observation and if anyone thinks that’s retarded feel free to correct me. I’m open to learning

early season pressure.

Hunting pressure is the biggest influence on deer movement and where they live. Same reason why people kill big bucks right next to the parking lot on public. Deer don’t get old unless they find a spot no one goes. At night they will move to the best forage to eat, but hunting pressure pushes them to low pressure spots.
