Offensive Rebounds - Why We Have a Winning Record

I'd arguing rebounding on both ends of the court is the reason. Pels are #2 in DReb%. Last season they were #19. Not being able to rebound to end possessions and get stops has been an Achilles Heel of the Pels for years.

very astute observation
good offense is hard to come by for the entire league right now.
offensive rebounding can make the difference

look at this

Quote from Stan last night responding to a question about if he was happy with the rebounding and points in the paint advantage.

quote:

That's how we have to play. I was saying to the coaches the other day we're a throwback NBA team. We're big and strong and physical and we're a team that's got to attack the paint and so those numbers have got to be good. We've got to offensive rebound the ball and we've got to keep other people from scoring in the paint. That's just who we are and that's how we're going to win.

...There are going to be nights where people probably 3 us to death. They had 11 3s at half time but they only had 47 points. If we don't give up points in the paint, if we don't foul people, if we don't turn the ball over, we're going to have a chance every night...That's how you're going to have to beat us I hope, you're going to have to go in and make a lot of 3s.

We just need Zion to start rebounding the balls that aren’t his own misses

he’s been a disappointment on the D boards.
they can build around that but as others have repeatedly noted, hayes was not a good choice if zion isn’t going to rebound opponent misses

He had 1 bad game on the glass and now we calling him a disappointment on the boards. This board is ridiculous.

He has 2 defensive rebounds in the last two games

There isn’t a reason why guys like Hart, Hayes and Melli should have way better defensive rebounding rates than Zion

Of course you're going to complain about the last game where he was in foul trouble the entire game and played a season low 17 minutes while he couldn't get into rhythm. Even then he had a respectable 5 total rebounds. Considering how we limited OKC's offensive rebounds, I'd say he did well enough to box out for our guards to get the defensive rebounds.

Now look at his first 3 games an complain. Exactly. He had 1 bad game brah.

He has the 6th highest DRB% on the team.

5 games in, those stats can drastically change quickly but it's fair to say that's not ideal or where we'd expect him to be on the defensive boards.

And if we're being honest, part of the reason for this is some of the same that we saw last season, a lot of lack of effort and just standing around. For me, that's pretty concerning.

yes exactly
jeeze guys it’s not an indictment just disappointing.
relax

he needs to be a Hoover there and Adams is just the guy to make it easier. Nobody blocks out better than Adams. Zion should have 10 boards in his sleep

It’ll come

Why we have a winning record: Steven Adams presence in the paint. Both offensively and on defence. On defence teams are way more apt to shoot from the perimeter. When they do drive they try and go around him and that forces up some bad shots. He is the only player that I can admit has that “gravity” people attribute to Steph Curry and others.

Off the court he is a leader as well. He exudes a winning attitude.

Complain?

The consensus doesn’t agree that Hart, Hayes and Melli shouldn’t outrebound Zion on the defensive boards? Zion should be a double digit rebounded easily

Dude was letting Cameron Payne box him out for rebounds. Zion is 6”6” 285 with a 45” vert.

Adams has exceeded wildest expectations at this point. He is as advertised and I don’t think we will ever have to worry about his effort.

Barkley’s nickname was “round mound of rebound” for a reason

I'm not excusing it but I think a lot of it is him waiting for Adams to grab it because he just comes out of nowhere sometimes.

I have been seeing our defensive rotations force him out of the paint recently to guard the corner 3 a lot, and teams are straight up abusing him out there. Can't close out and can't recover to grab the rebound.

With that being said he's been grabbing enough boards that I'm not too pessimistic about it yet.

With Josh Hart's dominance in getting DREBs to go along with Adams's work around the basket, we really don't need Zion to get a lot of DREBs. Even Lonzo helps on the defensive glass.
