Dumas is way better. Greens have some rough spots, but generally roll well. Not sure when BREC is closing it.

The ground at Dumas is like concrete. Chips and pitches need to be hit crisp. There is no getting under the ball, at least not for me.
I spoke with someone at the course and he said they will shut it down after renovations have been done to Clark.

He expected 8-9 months, but wasn't 100% on the timeline.

That would be terrible. Dumas serves the middle of the parish’s population center. It should be maintained. It should not be closed.

the par 3 course and dumas are about to join forces in becoming another joke of a golf course with all tee boxes being shared on split greens.

That’s ridiculous. EBR should be able to have three well kept 18 hole courses spaced out throughout the parish.

They have invested money in Webb and should continue to do so.

OVER THE LAST 3 YEARS:
11, 629: average rounds played
30.8%: cost recovery
$506,550: average subsidy
$1,519,651: total subsidy
$19.38: average revenue per round
$43.89 average subsidy per round

The numbers for Dumas

So if a public golf course loses money it should close?
What about the soccer complex? Does it pay for itself?
What about Farr Park, Highland Park, Indy Park? The zoo? The basketball gyms? Memorial Stadium? Goldsby Field?
If they are all paying for themselves then why am I paying taxes?
11,600 rounds are played each year at Webb. I bet most of the players pay taxes as well as green fees. Where will all these rounds be played if Webb closes?
BREC property taxes are to pay for parish wide recreation for everyone. Golf is great recreation, Webb is a valuable legacy, if Webb closes now after Howell and Dumas it would be criminal.

ETA: I haven’t pkayed Webb in years, but I did years ago. It’s a key piece of the Parish psrk system and needs to remain open.

In 2018, Dumas Memorial Golf Course recovered 31.7% of its costs. Compare this to 64.6% at Webb, 84.9% at Beaver Creek, and 104.7% at Santa Maria.

Dumas has averaged 11,629 rounds played per year over the last 3 years. Compare this to 23,165 at Beaver Creek, 26,395 at Webb Memorial, and 34,189 at Santa Maria.

Brec dot org

11k rounds is very low for a course open year round.

I’m sorry. I’m not disagreeing about Dumas. I’m advocating improving Webb. My bad.
