Never fished out of Chalmette but here it is good winter fishing. Plan to launch out of bait inc one day soon.
Any advice on where to fish around there and also are most people catching them with shrimp under a popping cork?

The Great Wall and the drop offs in the MRGO.

Do you fish with a shrimp under a popping cork?

No, deep water jigging

This time of year look for deeper holes along the "Wall" or get in the MRGO on the east side of the wall and fish the rocks from the wall, heading eastward. You'll need to be on the bottom, for the most part unless it warms up enough and they start coming to the surface.
Matrix shad on the lightest jig head to get it to the bottom is your best bed. Shrimp creole, Tigerbait and Lemonhead are some of the more productive colors.

Help me out. I am new to out here. I was in Hopedale left the marina going east into what I suspect was the MRGO. I saw the rocks on the end. Is that where you recommend or go out and around? I ask because we were here today and not a fricking smell of a fish.

Different rocks, I think you're referring to the rock damn right close to the marina. The rocks are out by the gulf. Right now it's supposedly very low water and muddy due to the winds. I'm trying to make it out there soon.

Thanks. Historically have never gone that direction. Brother in law has a camp by the Reggio Marina so we are usually west. They had 2 bites yesterday and we all had none today. Water was lowest I have seen in my short time out here.

That's the MRGO Rock Damn in Hopedale.
The OP is referring to fishing in the Bayou Bienvenue area near Chalmette where the MRGO and ICW merge.
