I remember those old wooden doll houses. I put three together over the years at work and painted them with a small hobby paint gun.

Tricycles, wagons, and Bikes were easy.

They all came out great.

Just many nights working on it after work.

No amount of wife sex made up for that crap.
I guess I miss some of it.

Mine are 16 and 13. They came out of their rooms long enough to open presents and then disappeared back into their rooms with their haul. I told my wife Christmas has gone the way of my birthday. It feels like any other day now. No excitement from the kids no family to visit. We don't even cook anything special anymore. I'm gonna do what I can to change that next year.

Think of it as a little intermission. When my brother and I got too old for santa and too old for “fun” gifts, I started to not really like Christmas. It felt hyped up for nothing. Your kids are in that phase. Not quite old enough to drink and kick back catching up with you. But also too old for Santa.

But I was just thinking yesterday how Christmas is almost as good as it used to be now that we are adults and it’s all about awesome food and drinking copious amounts of wine (without judgment) with family.

Before long, we will have the next generation of kids and Christmas will be a combination of both of the above — young kids + wine.

I have 4 children, ages 20-28. And I picked up a SIL a couple of months ago. To this day my wife and I have not admitted there is no Santa and they go along with it. Fortunately the oldest 3 live in town and they are all doing well. The youngest is home for college. All of them slept at my house, so we can be together Christmas morning. When they wake up, we’ll open gifts, then eat a big breakfast. They will spend the day here and we’ll cook dinner later in the afternoon. I’m not putting toys together, but there still is Christmas magic with my kids and I love it.

Oldest is 19 youngest is 15 and while I miss the days of them being little and everything we did being magic, I love getting to know the adults that they’ll eventually be.
