Coaches who win bowl games and championships get bonuses. Why not do the reverse when they set negative records? Dock their pay instead of rewarding them with a contract pay out. Might not work, but has it ever been tried? I bet Coach O would have accepted the conditions to become our new head coach!

Players who "opt out", aka QUIT, during a season should be required to pay back tuition and other expenses they enjoyed that season, because the money could have been used for a player who sticks it out and contributes the entire season.

I know this is thinking out of the box, but it makes no sense to pay out millions of $ to coaches who did not come close to meeting expectations.

Do their contracts stipulate how many wins are needed to be "successful"?

Yes I’m sure this will be attractive to prospective coaches and recruits.

Someone make this man AD. (But if he fails then make him pay back everything and have him owe us)

You’d have to write it into the contract and no coach worth a shite would agree to this.

Did you honestly think you had just come up with some master plan noones ever thought of before?

Yeah let’s do that and never land another recruit

Should we have had to spend millions more on our staff last year when we outperformed expectations?

Their scholarship is normally pulled when players quit, but covid opt outs protected that this year.

As far as coaches, We need to stop guaranteeing 100% of their salary or make a clause where performing well below expectations can constitute “cause for termination”. Pelini was scheduled to make 2.3 million a year for 3 years, but because his defense performed so bad, he got 6.9 million for 1 year. He was fired but rewarded for underperforming. Can you imagine if other jobs were like this. The garbage man dumps your trash in your driveway and gets 3 years salary to stop being a garbage man. A car salesman can’t get anyone to buy a car, so the dealership pays him 3 years salary to not sale cars. It’s insanity.

In your dumb arse scenario, Do the players get paybacks when College Head Coaches process them?

That's an extremely generous way of looking at it.

For the millionth time, opt out was NCAA policy this year. All the bitching about it is pointless.

This was thought out by a former public school attendee. Clearly.

If they quit between semesters, they don't keep their scholarship. But we don't cut off financial aid (or food or housing) if they quit in the middle of a semester.

Only one of the guys who opted out before the season (Farrell) stayed in school this semester, anyway.

Yeah, this is how you want people to see your program. Would be a great recruiting tool!

How much do they dock your pay whenever you take too long to take a dump on the clock?

Kids who quit, should (and I think they do) immediately lose their scholarship and other athlete perks (i.e., nutrition center, gym, tutors...). This year exceptions were made for those who 'opted out'.

You're right. I went to LSU.

Concerning players being allowed to opt out this year with no penalty due to covid is a weak excuse for quitting. We had some excellent young players who refused to "opt out" when the going got though. They stayed and fought hard for themselves, their coaches, and their fans - and they made me, for one, damn proud to be an LSU Tiger fan! Instead of learning nothing by opting out, I believe the young guys who stayed learned valuable life lessons and are better for it.
