Thoughts?

I personally think this kid is dumb as bricks and is just looking for an easier way to life by doing the only thing he's decent at. Attempting a gaming career AFTER school is one thing, but what does he have to fall back on after this fantasy doesn't go as expected?

LOL. I'm a year younger than this guy, but there is no way in hell my parents would let me drop outta school. This kid is a loser. I love video games, but they are a hobby.

Meh... the kid was obviously what we would probably call a "loser," and apparently his parents are not just letting him slide with no education. At least he's getting home schooled, and he's excelling with it. That's a plus.

If this helps keep the kid's mind off of the ridicule and negative attention he receives while attending regular high school classes with his peers, then more power to him. If it keeps him from shooting up the school one day, then all the more power to him and his family.

I'm not letting the kid off the hook--just playing devil's advocate. While I can support his decision to drop out of high school and take care of his education privately, I think he's fricking insane for thinking he's got a shot at making a career out of gaming.

maybe if he would have done what real musicians did in the '60's and dropped out of school to play a real guitar (hopefully giving him skills enough to be a good musician) that would have been ok.

But this is why Ive been saying for years that this guitar hero phenomenom is just helping to speed up the process of killing all creative juices of an entire younger generation.

I though that was the secret to life!? Thats how you never work....do something you love. Honestly I think your jealous...your forced to go to your job 5 days a week while this kid makes a living playing games (and probably makes more than you doing so).

Also nobody seems to give Michelle Wie or Freddie Adu shite....they both quit school to pursue a career in games.

Yeah, you got me there!

First off, My education, job, family....ALWAYS comes before video games. So my priorities are better than his to start with. I'm also not "forced" to go to my job 5 days a week. I go because I have mouths to feed, a house, vehicles, ect. This kid hasn't even paid his first light bill.

Second, you say he makes a living playing video games? umm, no he doesn't. The most he's won was 52 chicken sandwiches from Chic Fil'a. He quit school so he can "attempt" a career in playing video games. So basically he's still living on Mom and Dad's pocket, while sitting in his bedroom playing Guitar hero all day and eating chicken sandwiches.

Third, he's good at Guitar Hero, he may be even great at it! That's awesome! But can he hold his own in other video games? Can he get 30 kills a round on SOCOM? Can he hold his own in Madden? Every professional video gamer I have heard about work to become great at many video games. Johnathan Wendel aka "Fatal1ty" is one of the more well known professional video gamers. He is good at alot of games. That's where the money is at.

Bottomline, that's great that he has the desire to try and make a living doing something he loves. but his priorities are really messed up at such a young age. It's way too soon in his life to make a decision on a fantasy career before having something secured to fall back on.

Also, Wie and Adu play Soccer, which is the most popular sport in the world. Professional video gaming isn't even close to the same league as Soccer. That was just a stupid comparision.

One gamer, quoted at the end of the linked article, says that in eight years his total earnings are about $25,000 total, and that's including a national championship in Halo 2.

Whew man, really racking in the big bucks there.

Wie plays golf but the same principle applies. Both Wie and Adu will make millions this kid will struggle just to get out of his parents house one day if he's depending on games to pay his expenses. Sure everyone wants to make a career by doing something like this whether it's playing games or sports but for most people it's a dead end. He may be successful but odds are if he's only playing Guitar Hero his gaming career will be over pretty fast.

shite like this is what's destroying music.

Just think, kids are going to have GH idols. "OHHH!!!! I want to be like Tommy the Guitar Hero God!!!!"

Pretty soon, they're going to be producing albums via GH/Rock Band, and that's going to be what we hear on the radio. Then it's going to be sold out arenas for this shite.

I will go on a mass killing spree if this happens.

Guy 1 - *Listens to Carry on Wayward Son* "Hmm that's these boys playing"

Guy 2 - "No that's Kansas but these boys scored 100,000 points playing it on expert"

Guy 1 - "That's god dammed impressive"

Then comes the coke and sex parties.

Then, cue the latest line of Gibson Les Paul signature series wireless guitar controllers.

Bud Light should do a "Real Men of Genius" GH/RB commercial.

Exactly. Same thing with Kevin Garnett and Lebron.

Yeah, cause video gaming goes on the same level as basketball.

What's with people wanting to compare video gaming to major sports?

Kobe, Garnett, and Lebron all had million dollar endorsement deals and NBA contracts waiting for them fresh out of High School. They knew they were the best in the country when they started their career.

What kind of endorsement deals does this kid have waiting for him? Chicken sandwiches and gift cards!
There's no proof that he's the best GH player in the country. But I guess being the best at the Chic Fil'a on a Saturday night is just great!

I forgot to add the in my previous post.

I agree with what you've said. There are people with college degrees who hit rock bottom. KG, LeBron, Kobe... those guys will be set for life long after their careers are over. Whether it be analysts at ESPN, coaching, putting on camps, etc... They'll be fine.

This kid here.... not so much.

We both fricked up. I knew you were being sarcastic.

I think I'm about to drop out of college to pursue a career in Golden Tee. I'll hit every barroom with the game in the country.

What does he have to fall back on if he finishes high school and then does that? It's not like a high school education means anything.
