I've never heard him denigrate Aranda. He has repeatedly stated he wanted a 4-3 defense not a 3-4.
He stressed Aranda likes 3-4.

It's not like he fired Aranda. Though it's not a secret he thought Aranda's defense was more "passive" than he would like.
I guess the question is did O push Aranda into finding a new job? Or did Aranda want to be a HC and the Baylor gig was too good to pass up? My gut tells me if he wanted to be the DC Aranda would still be here. He just had a major conf. HC job open late that he couldn't pass up.
In O's defense, LSU's defense last year wasn't good at all until after the Ole Miss game. With the way LSU's offense performed, the Texas, Florida and Bama games should have never been close. Aranda's defense couldn't get stops in the 2nd halves of those games (other than the terrible throw by Trask which Stingley intercepted). I could see O being somewhat concerned going into a season where it was clear the offense wouldn't be as explosive or efficient to make up for a defense that took a long time to come together. And frankly, I liked the thought of having a more disruptive DL (rather than one that just plugged gaps. But the hiring of a coach (Pelini) with no major conf. demand whatsoever at the time was absurd.
We've seen in his hiring decisions that O isn't a big fan of "new" or "young" coaches. Canada told O to frick off and Brady pissed O off by leaving after a year. Does the 2020 disaster on defense change that way of thinking? Essentially, "We did it your way coach in 2020. It was a disaster. Now hire the best coordinators you can find. Not the "best" guys who aren't ambitious in their careers."
