The win over Michigan. I do believe they played in the national championship game that year

The press conference was eye opening, but the Michigan game was a signal of the changing of the guard.

When he beat our arse the year before we hired him. I remember how hard that VCU team played, they weren’t super talented but Wade made them winners. I remember thinking why in the frick can’t we get a coach like this. Well 5 months later we got our coach like that lol. Only good thing Alleva ever did.

After his first post game interview. Dude sounded like Saban with his attention to detail and recollection of specific game situations.

When he slapped around ULL’s coach, I knew he was one of us.

A Wade coached team will give you enough scoring - his teams can easily get to 80/90's.

The issue has always been defense and this team with depth should be able to defend much better than any he has had without sacrificing offense. Defending the perimeter and preventing the lights out 3 point shooting from opponents we saw last year has to be the goal.

Even the SEC champs team had size to protect the rim but it wasn't an elite defensive team. They were effective with rebounding and limiting second chance shots more than anything.

It was nice to have a coach like him for basketball. It’s unfortunate that he’ll be gone after this year though. He was the only guy that could get us to compete with the big dogs in college basketball

His introductory press conference in the student union was awesome I remember. He had a lot of people pumped for LSU hoops again

This is why he will keep his job here. A "strong offer" type blunder will never happen again under his watch. Woodward knows this. Wade isn't going anywhere.

How can anyone be sold on his coaching ability? the guy didn’t play basketball. He started as a video assistant.

Then what he has done has been even more impressive, never playing college basketball and has LSU in the hunt every year should tell you a lot about his coaching ability

After the introductory press conference because...

Now, while in no way, shape or form have I EVER thought he should be fired, I have waivered a bit on my initial impression. For three years the defense has been the ONE glaring deficiency which could keep the program from being truly great. Last year no real adjustments were made to even slightly fix it (which could have resulted in LSU winning the SEC again) and in the first two games this season the SAME deficiencies were still there. Certainly there is time to get better on that side of the ball as this season rolls on (and they are showing potential glimpses of doing so). But if not, I will think he is a very, very good coach with a clear blindspot he just refuses to get past...much like Miles.

That would still be MUCH better than the alternative (inconsistency under Brady; Futility under Johnson; wasted talent under Jones). But frustration to know the program is so, so close to being truly great.

In the hunt for what? none of his years has his team been a legitimate threat to go all the way.
