Exactly. Our WR corps are pretty much depleted. I rather have 2 out there at WR than some of those other guys not named Boutte

There's the physical blocking tight end and there's the athletic freak receiving tight end

Arik ain't the first one

You still got a block if you want to be a great TE. Look at the best ones in the NFL they are just as good of blockers as they are receivers. Gronkowski is the best to do it and he was a great blocker.

Then he's not a TE. The guy is more characteristic of a Calvin Johnson type anyway. But, that's water under the bridge now.

I can see why a football player would be upset about being asked to play football

This is what happens when your coaching staff could be early enrollees at the local old folks home. Our staff is desperately out of touch with these guys. If you're losing your 5 star TE due to blocking, you've dropped the ball... somewhere... bigly.

Is he being asked to block or is he being asked to chip the DE on his release?

Im sure Gilbert was promised a certain type of role within the offense to get him to come here. Obviously we aren't running the same offensive scheme from the 2019 season. Blame the coaches.

This attitude got Jimmy Graham traded from the Saints and what has he done since he left.

I want Gilbert to stay and think he is great but if this is true he is going to need to change his attitude if he wants to be as great as he can be. No matter who he plays for if he is a TE he will be blocking.

all time great? sure

plenty of NFL TEs don't block much and are great

what separates a guy like gronk is his blocking, but he's the GOAT. you can't expect a college true frosh to be adult Gronk

we also didn't use the TE well this year like we did in 2019. same for the RBs in the passing game. we went dinosaur on offense and forgot brady's playbook

Go watch Thad Moss again last year. He was a beast at blocking. If Gilbert wants to be as good as he can be he will never get there limiting half of the position that allows you to be the best. TE get open a lot because of their blocking skills.

Jimmy got injured with a typical career-ender (patellar tendon tear) and is still making plays. his career wasn't derailed b/c of blocking

hell, post-injury, no-blocking Graham still got a massive deal with the Packers

Stupid take. If you want to be a big time TE in the pro's, you have to be able to block. Frankly, i think the OP is full of shite, and this is not the reason he's leaving.
