This was harder than it looked because all the blues on the chopper were so similar and the contrast wasn't so hot - especially compared to the background....

Anyone care to tell me how to change colors so well? I've tried quick mask and fill but really none captures the detail well enough.

ummm...I do mine several different ways depending on the picture and what color(s) I want. Here is something real simple to start with. Image > adjustments > desaturate, then go to image > adjustments > variations

Not good to use Fill cuz then you get a flat color, losing all the details. Better to use Image->Adjustments->Hue/Saturation->select Colorize->then play with the sliders until you get the colors you want.

I usually usually use the Magic Wand to select the area and then use the steps above but; like Orphan said, there are several different ways to go about changing colors and doing other tasks, too. Next time, I'm going to check out his method of desaturation .

This is the only place I post Orphan - occasionally on deviantart, but mostly here....

xBIGxEASYx - I was wondering if that was a bigfoot compartment or not....

I sometimes use fill to get that hard to get color(s). Then you overlay it, lower opacity, etc. In my second pic there is a fill of LSU (rgb)gold under the top gold layer. See how it's not so greeny. The top layer (on the second pic)is overlayed keeping most of the details. You WILL lose some details. Just mess around with the different tools and settings. Then you can an idea of what each can do.

more of a LSU gold
