It isn’t just the money in a lawsuit. It’s the shite that comes out during discovery. It’s the fact that you’ve got a loudmouth recruiting guy on the other side with an ax to grind. Oh, and the NCAA is still sniffing around.
No matter what, this can’t be allowed to happen. Do you think a hothead like O would even hesitate to run to the NCAA and bury us? He has to be given a smaller buyout that comes with an airtight NDA attached.

And here's another factor that isn't being addressed in this discussion;
O's big claim to fame is as a recruiter. Not an X's and O's guy, not a structured process guy, a recruiter.
Does anyone think that's still viable going forward? Just about anyone who could leave, and a few who shouldn't, have left. And apparently more on the way.
He's damaged goods, the one thing he brought to the table is gone.

this is true but there are a few things to consider
If Ed sues and tries to burn down LSU he is finished in coaching CFB
A lawsuit will bring depositions and discovery sure, but a settlement is always within reach. The LSU Admin may need to do something NOW, a lawsuit could take year/years to resolve.
Did you read this article?
quote:
LSU's athletic department says it expects to lose $80 million in revenue due to the impact of COVID-19 and is laying off employees and reducing salaries of others.
Football coach Ed Orgeron, men's basketball coach Will Wade and athletic director Scott Woodward are some of the employees under contract who have agreed to reduce their salaries by 5% next year.
Orgeron will see his $6 million salary reduced by $300,000.
"I think 5% is very generous. Some schools are going 10% or higher," Orgeron said Thursday night during a regularly scheduled teleconference. "I was very glad to do it."
Athletic department staff who earn over $80,000 will have their salaries reduced by 5% in 2021. Additionally, bonuses for coaches and staff won't be given for one year.
LSU said in its statement the moves are being made to "streamline productivity, eliminate redundancies and create efficiencies throughout the department."

Title IX stuff is specifically mentioned in the “for cause” firing portion of Orgeron’s contract. If he is caught up in any of that it’s a slam dunk firing for cause.
Also, the very first duty of Head Coach on page 2 is “administering, leading and managing the Program in a professionally appropriate and competent manner which allows the Team to effectively compete in ... the Power Five.”
It says on page 7 that “unreasonable refusal or repeated failure” to do so can also allow termination for cause.
Orgeron Contract
No AD with an ounce of brains or foresight would use the “administering” clause for something like play calling or a failed coordinator. But it wouldn’t be hard to argue that a mass exodus of true freshmen that leaves LSU bellow 60 scholarship players is enough of a leadership failure to fire for cause.
Woodward doesn’t have to prove any of this stuff in court. He just needs a sufficiently plausible threat that he can prove it and fire O for nothing, to convince O to go away in exchange for an NDA and 40 cents on the dollar.
