I’ll start with the good. Cam Thomas is “the guy” that you need for March. He shoots lights out and looks like he can be a legitimate 20 PPG player. He’ll be our closer that we’ve desperately needed. Watford went 9 for 10 from the line which is really nice to see after his FT shooting last year and he had 9 assist! If he can keep that up, he’ll definitely be all SEC, the post scoring from him will come. Days looked a lot more like his freshman year and seems like he’s in better shape, guess he took what the nba told him to heart. Big news. Team shot 46% from 3. While thats unrealistic to keep up for a full season, it’s encouraging to see that we can make a 3 ball. The bench also played really well, nice to have some depth

The bad. Hyatt is just a bad player, he shouldn’t be starting over guys like Cook and Gaines. Our defense is still atrocious too, we gotta get that fixed. Need better close outs and need to just stay in front of people.

Overall not an ideal debut, but there were a lot of positives. Onto a real litmus test Saturday, boot up!

Gaines seemed comfortable and was decisive and aggressive in his passing and shooting,

Cook was a little tentative in the first half, but looked good the second half, made a big shot and played good defense a couple times.

Oneal is shaking the rust off but had 5 rebounds in 13 minutes and hit a 3 pointer. Upheld family legacy at the line hitting 50% ( lol ).

Penn Johnson had a couple of good moments and will develop into a solid role player.

Days looked like an All American , just needs to be consistent. Stayed away from foul trouble.

Thomas is the second coming of Ronnie Henderson, although he does not have Ronnie's picture book form. He can still fill it up from everywhere.

Watford didn't score much from the field but was solid when offense ran through him.

Smart played like a seasoned veteran.

Hyatt started because of his experience, he won't when Manning and Leblanc are ready.

Wilkinson made a couple of plays late and is a work in progress.

Good opening win, new guys got their feet wet, enough correctable issues for Will to get their attention tomorrow and get ready for a tough test against a veteran mid major with tournament aspirations.

Wade has preached defense since he arrived. We have yet to see it. I doubt we will,

Yes, but in reality his main philosophy is getting players to score. Everything else is 2nd. Love it or hate it, at least it brings talent here.

Smart is still Smart. Arrow from the quiver, yappy and dropping bombs drawing a tech after hitting a shot. Just stupid boneheaded things that make him unlikeable. How about you STFU and go lead your team and set the example?!

At least he brings it every night. If it was the other way around you’d be more upset (ex: football team). He needs to avoid the techs, but the arrow and trash talking is great to me.

They had a better offensive plan than last year, like moving around to get open.

Gave up too many 3’s on defense.

These Freshmen are impressive.

Great analysis. However it’s kinda like preseason polls and rankings. Still judging teams with heavy rust. As an optimist I think Gaines Wilkinson smart O’Neal Thomas watford and maybe more will all be above average defenders after a few games. Which could carry LSU well into the top 25 before sec play.

I would hardly say Smart brings it every night. Smart almost tries to penetrate 0 and his ball rotation is soooooo slow. The guy has every possible physical attribute you’d want in a PG, but when teams go to Zone he absolutely kills us.

I thought our movement s the zone was slow. Playing a motion offense switching the high post. I thought the cut to high post would have been wide open if we got there quicker and actually looked at it.

They were covering up the high post decently honestly. Another skip or back door cut would have helped for sure

Sorry. I’ll take the Marcus Colston’s of the world. Did this guy never have a middle school or AAU or high school coach yank his arse after those shenanigans or has he had his arse kissed since he was 9? Very surprised WW did not undress him on the spot. He’s the kind of guy that shoots the arrow out of the quiver after hitting a three, “look at me”… Even though he’s down 10

Same... good offense...weak defense...let other/lesser teams stay in the game as every other year... Clearly have more depth and talent.

Wade said this morning they purposely held back a lot of the new defensive scheme for Saturday against Saint Louis.

Manning and LeBlanc will be our best defensive players. Unfortunately neither played last night

You add a healthy Manning to this group and they will be scary good. Thomas is the real deal. He has no conscience. These freshman bring a higher intensity on the D side. If they can improve on that side the offense will take care of itself. Would rather Smart not run point. Hopefully as the season goes on the freshmen will get more PT at that position. Future looks bright!

Will Wade Interview Off The Bench

Ell this was from the morning show. His interview just finished. I don’t know if it’s available on demand yet. It was a really good interview.
