PROFESSIONAL SERIES 8" CHEF'S KNIFE WITH DIMPLES (MTH-80)

Budget is of importance of me and I can’t pretend that it’s not. I cook a good bit and want to invest in one great quality, versatile kitchen knife. I’ve bought the $50 range before and none of them hold an edge for more than 2-3 uses in my experience. I’m looking at the above and have pretty much decided on it. Several knock offs on Amazon for around $90 but the authorized dealers and Mac themselves sell it for about $150-$175. Really openers my eyes to how prevelant the counterfeiting is on Amazon but that’s another topic.

Any thoughts on that particular knife? Any suggestions otherwise?

Not familiar with those knives but it looks very good. Personally, I'm not a guy that has to have expensive knives and Le Creuset pots. I will never knock anyone that does though. I use Dexter knives in several sizes. I also have a Japanese wet stone and a sharpening steel that I use to keep them sharp AF.

Good luck with your purchase.

I don’t have a lot of experience with specific knives either but I’ve worked with several executive chefs, soux chefs, and culinary students and they all swear by their knife much like a mechanic amd his tools. You don’t touch a Chefs personal knife. He’ll have others for you to cut shite with, but his knife is his knife so there is something to it.

I just want to buy a quality knife ONCE, much like finally investing in a quality cordless drill or something.

I invested in some DMT stones and I have upped my sharpening game. At this point, buying a chef’s knife the only thing that I care about is price and handle comfort. So, if I were buying today I would just buy a dexter knife.

Great. Holds the edge for a decent amount of time?

Your MAC knife will be better than any other knife you or anyone else you know owns. Have to go real specialty Japanese type stuff if you want to find anything better.

Fair warning: they don’t look much different from something you’ll find at a grocery store so if you’re going for visual wow factor then stay away from MAC.

If you ever find a good deal on a MAC knife then pull the trigger and ask questions later.

I really couldn’t care less about the look. As far as the food deal, I’ve found that there are A LOT of imposters out there. I’m going to buy from an authorized dealer or MAC itself so the best deal I’m going to find seems to be about $140.

Sorry, just saw this. Yes.

I do use my 9.5” more now, though. Just a personal preference.
