"Not as out & out corrupt"? EWE has no morals to go along with being an out & out crook. Back then, he was one of the very few French speaking oil & gas attys. Representing his "poor " cajun constituents in signing oil & gas leases, he would insist on having one lease in French, which he would show to his cajun clients. The official lease in English , was filed in the court house as the legal document. The figures in the French, unofficial lease were different than the figures listed in the official lease. His clients thought his fee was a significantly lower amount. The official lease's figures were actually higher. He pocketed the difference as the royalty checks came to his office for disbursement. He was the atty for 1000's of clients over the decades. No one will ever know how much he made in this one scam.

Without Huey Long, we don’t have Bernie Sanders

EWE was corrupt but never did anything as bad as Win or Lose, the deduct box and the newspaper publication (advertisers had little choice). Positions were bought and sold.
