This weekend is my birthday and i am looking for somewhere nice to go that has good food in new orleans but not looking to make my boyfriend pay alot for dinner. He said he was looking at spending around $150 for dinner. Can anyone recommend a good restaurant for dinner? We were looking at muriel's and a few others. Some suggestions would be helpful.

Is that dollar amount inclusive of alchohol? or just food?

shouldn't he be asking for the advice to surprise you? hehe.
Uptown or downtown? How much will/do yall drink? Are you going to drive, cab it, or walk... staying overnight?
This will help with suggestions.

Bring your own bottle of wine and ask the corkerage fee. You can normally save quite a lot and that way you can surprise him as well. You can bring more than one normally.

We've enjoyed Pelican club in the quarter. It's around the corner from the Monteleone. You could probably get a cheap room and get some drinks at the carousel bar before or after.
I love Irene's but it's a pain in the arse to get in.
Brigsten's might be a good spot for yall uptown. Commander's if you want to go all out
Emeril's Delmonico is really good.

I took my wife to MR B's. With apps, main course, a bottle of wine, and other drinks we spent about 210 (with tip). It was worth it.

Did this Friday night for my birthday... Did the Chef's Menu so each course was a surprise. Our waiter said that for each person it runs $65 to $100. Plus, they will do a wine pairing with each course for about $60 a person. We just opted to buy by the bottle and saved money that way.
I would recommend it.

Dante's Kitchen and Clancy's are a great options off the beat and path. They are worth investigating...they don't get much attention on this board, but they are top notch. I also love the Pelican Club.

Sounds like Cafe Degas would be perfect.

Go uptown to La Crepe Nanou.
LINK
Food is outstanding, the restaurant is small and romantic, the service is personable, and the prices are very reasonable. It's a real neighborhood place. I recommend the mussels and escargot to start (with lots of bread for dipping) and the sweetbreads as a main course.
But before dinner stop here,

and buy the fattest bottle of wine you can afford and bring it to the restaurant.

I usually know my BYO restaurants...I was unaware of Nanou. Whats the corkage fee?
I have never seen anyone do it at Nanou.

I used to work at The Wine Seller in college. I'm good friends with the owner Ben.
