Olympic Volleyball...with NBA players

I don't know how many people have been watching the olympic mens volleyball but i have been loving it. So it got me thinking, what would it be like if we had NBA players, or people of that athletic ability, playing for team USA? Can you imagine having 6'8" Lebron James spiking on some catt from russia? And why isn't volleyball a national sport for men in the u.s. or guys in highschool in the south? It's a fun game and i don't think people realize how hard it is to jump out of e few inches of sand

I played in High School along with football and basketball.
It's an awesome sport and is getting much more popular for guys in the north and west.
Ohio now has 150ish guys teams.
And the club circuit is really good with some great competition.
Ohio State and Penn State are the only two varsity men's College teams in the Big Ten.

Also, Chase Budinger who played for Arizona this past year, was the player of the year in Vball.

Dude believe it or not those guys are around 6-5 to 6-9 and are getting up and spiking the ball from around 11 feet in the air seeing as their heads are easily above an 8 foot net (I'm almost positive it's 8 feet), NBA players would get drilled by these guys, like the guy for Bulgaria yesterday catching one in the face

i knew, most of the players were around 6'5 and up, but maybe i was underestimating the athleticism of these guys. i mean u think a lebron sized player, with the equivalency in a volleyball skillset and 40"+ vertical, could do some damage, but again dont think they really take measureables on these guys, vertical jump etc. so its hard to say...i wish the sport would have had some popularity in baton rouge while i was in high school, but around here most people think of volleyball as a female sport

at least this sport is getting some credit somewhere, and i knew i liked chase budinger for a reason

LeBron would dominate any sport he played. As would most of those guys in the NBA.
But it takes some practice to get it all down and those guys are pretty damn athletic. They have some serious verticals

Volleyball is a true team game.

Volleyball has the reputation of a sport for girls in the south and Texas.
Plus, compared to the big three, you're not "manly" if you don't play any of the big three sports in lieu of volleyball.
Thus, volleyball should be 4th on the list.

It has a reputation of a girls sports everywhere, because that's how it started.
I just have loved to play the game, even more so than football, basketball or baseball.
I had the choice to pick baseball or volleyball(both of which are in the winter) and I chose the latter.
If you worry about what people think, then you have issues IMO.

not manly? baseball shouldnt even be in the "big 3", and as for the other 2, played football in highschool and basketball in AAU, thats besides point, if you've ever played a few sets of vball and caught a few spikes in the face on your first day, you'd know its a bit more "manly" than originally thought

I was watching Venezula (sp?) vs. the US the other night and Ven had a 6'9 lanky black guy just pounding it on some of our guys for a little while. If Dwight Howard played volleyball would you be able to hit a ball over him?? It would be really fun to watch some of those guys do that.

The question is why aren't these athletes playing basketball and representing their race. I think that is what the original post was meant to say that the NBA players ( majority are black) would dominate these unathletic white boys. Why aren't these white boys representing?
Also, I know someone I went to high school with that plays all over the country on a club team out of Atlanta. I asked his cousin about the guy and what he was doing; he said he was now "out" (which I knew) and he travels all over the country with this team but we don't tell anybody because they are all gay and it is a big "steroetype" party wherever they go. He was no athlete in high school either, but from what I can understand he is now.
I like the sport always have, but I could believe some of the stereotypes. Doesn't stop me from enjoying it.

Actually, Wilt Chaimberlain went on to become a great beach volleyball player after he retired from the NBA.
I know because it was one of the questions on the original Trivial Pursuit.

Until my daughter started playing club volleyball I didn't realize how much strategy and teamwork was involved in the game. Our NBA stars don't exactly play team ball (at least the team this time tries to) so it may not be a good fit for them. 1 or 2 players can't carry a volleyball team at any level, but they can in Basketball.

I know for a fact Vince Carter played it, I cant remember if he played at UNC though? Imagine a 6'6" 46 inch vert Carter spiking the ball at people.
