As White: e4 with the intent of getting into the italian game or the kings Indian. I am trying to get better against the sicilian butits very complex and rich with tactics. I understand the ideas of the first two best so they are my go to.
As Black: I play the caro kann exclusively against e4 because I understand the ideas and there aren't that many opening traps to get caught up in. Against d4 I almost always reply with d5 as I am comfortable in queens gambit and slav structures.
Dont study move orders, study the ideas behind the set ups. This will help you plan and understand what is going on over the board.
