This is something that needs to be looked at more.
We use the total amount of deaths to push how deadly this virus is.
Looking at the virus with the recent number wouldn't have garnered such a response.
But just looking at the US, our case rate has been higher than our original spike, but deaths half as much. WHy is that?

Our testing is much higher as well, we are finding more cases that were likely there on the 1st wave, but never detected.

They have stopped using ventilators nearly as much. In NY and NJ in particular they were putting thousands of people on them in March-May.
The case numbers we have here now are just as bad as they were in the spring but the death toll is 1/10 of what it was back then.

With it being easier to get tests, people are getting tested now for pretty innocent reasons. I know a couple of people that got it "just to be safe" after getting back to CO from another state. That kind of thing just wasn't happening at the beginning.
