Who Went Through the Eye?

I think this was the first time I experienced the eye of a real hurricane.
I was 7 years old for Betsy and that was at night. I was kept inside.
There was that storm shortly before Katrina that was declared a hurricane after the fact. It passed right over my house, and we experienced what looked like the eye, but that was almost too minor to count.
I rode out Zeta at a house near the Kenner/Metairie line. From time to time I would go outside on well shielded front and back porches. As the eyewall approached, the rain was shooting sideways in torrents from east to west. Later on it was blasting from north to south. I between, there was a period where the winds were calm and the rain stopped to a drizzle. The skies above me were not clear blue like some in Metairie were reporting, but the clouds were light and thin and the sun was glowing through them.
The reporters on the weather channel sometimes compare war stories about the times they went through the eyes of hurricanes. Even with them, these experiences seem to be few and far between.
As a native New Orleanian, I can add this to my long list of hurricane stories.

Didn’t truly go through the eye at my house. I think we were in the eye wall for a sustained period and the winds were pretty strong. Definitely the strongest I’ve experienced since Andrew.

I’m pretty sure I was as close to the eye as possible without actually being in it because the weather never let up and it was vicious.

Garden District
Went out in the neighborhood for a walk around Magazine Street, helped the neighbor move a big branch from her driveway.
Just strolled around. No rain. Sunny. Eerily still.
I've been through hurricanes before but never right in the eye.
Could see the high clouds approaching in the distance as the sun started to set and the back wall approached.

I went through one in the early 80’s (before many on the OT were born) as a kid and distinctly remember me and my dad going out in the back yard during the Eye. Even as a child, I recall thinking that this was something. You could see the distinct line in the clouds and it was eerily quiet and calm. It sticks with me to this day.
Mother Nature is no joke.

The eye went right over us. It was pretty damn cool. Dead arse calm, birds flying and really cool purple and orange colors in the sky. Apparently Betsy was the last time an eye has gone over New Orleans but I heard someone say today Cristobal’s eye went over New Orleans.

Went through two, this one and Betsy, 12 blocks between them and 55 years apart.

We were in Fourchon for the storm. Was obvious when eye passed over. Lemme tell ya though, Zeta was hammering down here at landfall.

The eye was over my place for at least a half hour. Didn’t expect that.

That was Cindy.
I was in the Lower Garden District for last night. Was also in the eye of Wilma when it passed over S Florida in 2005.

We think we were in the western edge of the eye in River Ridge. Was extremely quiet and you could look up and see blue skies. There wasn’t much on the radar behind it but the back end of the storm was flat out scary. I was convinced we were in a tornado and my roof was about to fly off any second.

Me, in Metairie. Pretty crazy to experience as this was my first eye encounter as well.
Looked at the radar and thought the back half fell apart. Was not expecting the wind on the back end. That’s the part that actually knocked down a nice 15 foot section of my fence, and tore several sheets of metal off the roof of my shed.
Also somehow did not lose power which is pretty cool

We did in Slidell. Damn near flooded the house when the backside moved through and the wind came from the south. Ive never seen water come up that fast.
