The dumbest, stupidest, idea in the last 100 years of media. Who the hell would want to pay a monthly fee to watch short videos of 10 minutes or less on their smart phones only?! When you can watch a zillion youtube videos for FREE on your big screen or any device. Well, not many to be kind. A huge financial loss in the billions, only six months it lived. I knew it was not gonna work when its clap trap marketing face was shorts of Chrissy Tegren holding court, ala Judge Wopner.

Among the initial investors were a who’s who of Hollywood studios: Disney, NBCUniversal, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Viacom, AT&T’s WarnerMedia, Lionsgate, MGM, ITV and Entertainment One (now part of Hasbro). Tech investors include China’s Alibaba Group.
That funding round was led by VC firm Madrone Capital Partners; other investors were Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan and John Malone’s Liberty Global. The Katzenberg-founded WndrCo investment vehicle also is a Quibi investor.

You realize that they introduced the ability to stream to your tv from your phone, right? About 3-4 months ago.

Quibi sounds like an idea that would have come straight out of fictional company on parks an recs “entertainment 720” ??

We had a free 6 month subscription from T-Mobile, and never figured that part out.

More arrogance from the class of self appointed elites.
Never saw it, but heard ads for it. Too hilarious.
" That's cute, YouTube, but wait until the public sees how the PROS do it!!! "
Waah waaah!

Why do people give a shite whether new apps (that they're not going to use) succeed or fail?

because people always have to have something to bitch about - even if it has absolutely no impact on their life on a daily basis.

I think it's because a huge number of regular people reacted to the announcement with "WTF this is dumb we don't want this." And then it was pushed on them from all angles for weeks/months, including by media outlets. So when it finally crashed, as we all said it would, it's vindication for the public who were annoyed at being force fed a stupid idea by our "betters".

I mean I didn’t jump for joy hearing they shut down but it is an interesting case of insane over confidence and a complete misunderstanding of their target market which resulted in some of the worst possible content created given how much money they threw at actors and directors
All that gets mixed in with some phoney wanna be Steve Jobs CEO types that we all love to hate just pouring gasoline on the dead carcass fire that was Quibi
Overall the story of Quibi is going to be a fun documentary one day to watch.

Quibi seems like the Fyre Festival of streaming content.

I can't believe they didn't know this was a bad idea, because literally everyone else did.
Now, can we get a REAL Reno 911 reboot??

Their own people described it as a streaming service so you could watch an episode of a TV show "while you wait for your Uber to arrive".
Anyone shocked by its demise wasn't paying attention to the utter retardation of its basic premise, much less how much of a hole they dug themselves in by throwing money at fame whores like Chrissy Tiegen.

Yea I'm sure that, in order to transfer Chinese money discretely, they started a major media endeavor with a lot of public attention and advertising and designed it to fail.
