Alcohol Allergy / Flushing

Last couple of years, I've developed what seems to be an allergy to alcohol. My first drink or two sometimes leaves my face incredibly red and burning. I know it's common among Asians, but I'm not Asian.
I started tracking different alcohols since it doesn't always show up. Thus far, I've had reactions to 1800 Silver tequila and Michelob Ultra. I know I've gotten it from other beers and alcohols in the last two years, but I didn't think to track what they were at the time.
Wondering if a daily allergy pill might help out, or taking Zantac before a night of drinking could help. Seems if you can block the histamine-2, you can somewhat prevent the flushing and burning. Anyone else suffer from this?

Just drink until you can no longer feel your face. Problem solved.

That's, usually, the point.

Get an allergy skin test.
Mayo Clinic says:
Mayo Clinic says:

Alcohol intolerance can cause immediate, uncomfortable reactions after you drink alcohol. The most common signs and symptoms are stuffy nose and skin flushing. Alcohol intolerance is caused by a genetic condition in which the body can't break down alcohol efficiently. The only way to prevent these uncomfortable reactions is to avoid alcohol.
Although not a true allergy, in some cases, what seems to be alcohol intolerance might be your reaction to something in an alcoholic beverage — such as chemicals, grains or preservatives. Combining alcohol with certain medications also can cause reactions.

That shite sounds really dangerous to take. I'm surprised it is still on the market!

That’s pretty common among folks. I have no idea about the use of meds, but I would likely track what sets it off and avoid that.
Then maybe try to pair an antihistamine with one that you react with.

As suggested, maybe get some allergy testing done. Since it’s not something you’ve had all of your life it could be due to an underlying issue like high blood pressure.

I’ve learned it doesn’t get out of your system in perfect 24 hour cycles

You might read about reactive hypoglycemia. If you get a big influx of carbs, your body can overreact and your blood sugar can come crashing down. Then you will feel hot.
If diabetes runs in your family or if you are obese, I would definitely read about it.

The fact that I got it after drinking 1/2 a bottle of Michelob Ultra at 2.6 carbs makes it seem like that's not the case here.

Hope you aren’t allergic to Ed Hardy and white Oakleys as well
Prayers sent

Happens to one of my buddies. Like you said, it happens with some alcohols and not others. He starts with the red face and neck/chest but if he continues drinking it’ll turn into some minor hives. Seems to be worse with cheap lower end alcohol. Makes me feel fortunate. What a shitty thing to have happen

Yeah it’s all alcohol it’s either alcohol or not. Doesn’t sound like an allergic reaction to alcohol itself

I know an Asian that’s allergic to rice. How wild is that?
