Woodward needs to figure out how to navigate having a program manager head coach

O cannot coach offense or defense
Any good coordinator hires he makes will leave for better things if successful here. They will only stay 1 or 2 years tops.
It will be constant. O cannot manage that type of turnover because he cannot coach one side of the ball.
The program will continue to have major ups and downs
The only way out is to hire a big time offensive coordinator that you think could be head coach in 3 or 4 years. It may need to be someone controversial like Hugh Freeze. Woodward may need to tell O that’s just the way it is and put in writing that the big time coordinator will get the head job in x number of years.
Otherwise this will be a continuous roller coaster ride.

Woodward needs to figure out how to stop giving coaches ridiculous contracts with massive salaries and crippling buyouts.

First thing is Woodward needs to learn to not offer 2.3m a year for Bo.

Orgeron’s inabilities are the root cause of all of this. It all comes down to that.
Saban can sustain all the change because he’s the best ever and knows x’s and o’s. No one else can.

So you think Coach O, a national championship winning head coach, is going to be ok with hiring a head coach in waiting and limiting the number of years he will have at LSU?

You do realize that Urban Meyers and Dabo Swinney were only just position coaches had never been coordinators.
I'm not saying O is either one of those two but the whole just a position coach thing doesn't work

If your AD has to intervene then you have the wrong head coach. Woodward has shown absolutely nothing as AD. He may be great but his tenure is a big nothing burger thus far. (He doesn't get credit for 2019 Natty).
It's the head coaches job to identify and select top talent in his assistants. O is below the Mendoza Line thus far.

No, he won’t be ok with it. But that’s on him. Sounds like you want to stay on this constant hamster wheel of hiring both great oc’s and dc’s? I’m tired of it.

I don't remember, who was beating down our door wanting to be head coach when Orgeron was hired?
Do you still have that list?
How many of those guys have won a national championship since them?
How many have beaten LSU since then?
How many have beaten Alabama?
Hey Chicken Little the sky is not falling, that was just thunder.
We will recover.

I don’t even think he can coach dline

Buyouts are standard, even for assistants. The key is not making horrifyingly terrible hires.

When is the last time LSU has had a legitimately elite defensive line?

Maybe 2011 but imo the last time we had a truly elite DL was in the early 2000s.
O seems to be trying to fix that though with his recruiting.

You are drawing a lot of downvotes, but what you are saying is true.
Orgeron is not competent to coach either an offense or a defense and must have top quality folks to do so.
BUT, he will not hire anyone who could ever be a threat to succeed him as HC. That's why his choices are all AARP members. Orgeron remembers that he got this job quietly undermining the existing HC with the AD and boosters (and got plenty of help from the boneheaded stubbornness of the HC). He is too insecure to allow a real young up and comer become a OC or DC. This was part of his issue with Aranda.

This an ignorant post. Virtually all coaches are managers only and don’t involve themselves in coaching aspect. There are a handful of coaches that involve themselves in the coaching aspect. Most head coaches hire coordinators to handle the coaching and pretty much stay out of the way. Coach O has been in football for many years and has forgotten more about the sport than most people will ever know. A good head coach’s job is to manage the whole team, not just one aspect of it. I can name a number of coaches that were good coordinators that haven’t had success as a head coach. Texas, South Carolina, and Auburn are just a few examples of teams with coordinator head coaches who have struggled. A head coach is 100% a team manager first.

He will never be fired if he continues to have LSU at or near the top—thus, he shouldn’t feel threatened by young coaches
