Things I currently have on a 2021 xpress h22b with yamaha vmax 200
1)VHF radio with antena
2)Back-up vhf radio
3)class 4 flare gun
4)hand flares
5)GPS with charts
6)up to date sea-tow
7)air horn
8)fire extinguisher
9)properly fitted premium life jackets
Things I've planned on doing before ever venturing offshore in venice.
1) Hire a guide for 1-2 times
2) Run the boat for another 6+ months to make sure the engine is properly working and broken in
3) continue to research the area in the mean time as I always do, this thread is obviously an example of that.
My nearest time frame of going to Venice is next summer so I will have plenty of time to learn my boats limitations and the area. If that isn't a reasonable and responsible pre-planning I don't know what is. People have been traversing through venice in much lower performance boats for the past 50+ years. I fish in the marsh 1-2 times per week and I am an experienced boater. The way you people describe it i will need a 32' contender with dual 300 verados to be able to even drive down the river in venice, when I know damn good and well there are more batoes than bay boats down there...

You know how I know you've never been to Venice before?

Just like I posted in the other thread, just use common sense about when you go out. Some of these guys are talking like Venice is some special dangerous place to fish. Its not much different than any other place. Can the river be dangerous? Sure it can, when you have 25-30 mph winds, but you won't be out on days like that anyway. Can you hit a sandbar that shifted? Sure, just like anyone else who has been down there 1,000 times and can't do anything about it. Can you get swamped from a tanker loaded down pushing a 4-6' wake? Sure, if you don't know how to handle a boat but that has nothing to do with Venice. Can a storm blow up on you and make conditions difficult? Sure, but you can generally see that coming and get out before it gets rough. Went down the river for years in a 17' aluminum express with a 115 hp motor and never felt unsafe. Go out 12 miles in a 21' express all the time and never feel unsafe. I dont know how far out MC109 is but again use common sense and you will be fine.
