Thanks for the responses all. After some research, it appears it’s not against the law to bring alcohol on to a flight. However, it is against federal law to bring alcohol on to a flight AND drink it on the flight.
Oh well. I was curious as to others experiences too so thanks for sharing.

Go to total wine and get the 100 ml bottles. I had 10 in my carry on for bachelor party. We poured into water bottles right before getting on the flight to make a nice whiskey/water.
My American Flight to/from Dallas to Phoenix had ZERO Beverage/snack service due to COVID.
