Can we all at last agree on this?

Orgeron is nothing without very good to elite coordinators and staff around him. He does not have the ability to make up for any deficiencies in personnel he hires.
He can not coach the offense.
He can not coach the defense.
He can not make in game adjustments.
So many things have to be done by other coaches for things to go right. This is a problem.

Nope. Don’t agree.

That's always been the rub against him. Even his biggest fans cannot deny this

Damn, you are melting hard about Orgeron today.
Wonder if OU fans are melting as hard you?

By all means, feel free to list specific examples of Orgeron doing any of those things with success.

I think you could say the same about Dabo at Clemson. But he seems not to whiff on his hires.
And to be honest, I’m ok w the HC managing the program this way. There are brilliant x and o guys who make terrible HCs
As long as he can recruit, motivate and manage the day to day minutia of the program he doesn’t have be an x and o mastermind.
But if that’s how the HC runs the program he can’t let his ego get in the way of hiring the right people.
Bo and Ensminger will ultimately be Ed’s downfall.

They can. And they will in this thread.

I think Dabo is pretty heavily involved in the defensive scheming. I don’t think he’s calling plays at all, but you can bet he’s not saying geaux tigers and clapping while Venables is making halftime adjustments.

He is one of the best in the business. Are you actually suggesting that Dabo coaches the defense and not Venables? I mean, it kind of seems like you are.

No. It isn’t. You live in a house of lies.

Can you not read? That’s not what I said or implied at all. I said he is involved. Like a HC should be.

Yeah...not really.
Dabo was a WR coach before getting the Clemson HC gig.
Dabo and O are very similar...both program managers. Both exceptional recruiters. Both cheerleaders and motivators. Neither were ever coordinators and both were position coaches when given the interim tag. The Orgeron hire was in many ways modeled after Dabo/Clemson.
Dabo kind of lucked into a “lifetime college DC” in Venebles...a guy that has no higher aspirations than college DC, which is rare. So the only side of the ball Dabo has ever had to deal with coaching turnover is on offense. We actually had a similar situation with Chavis (lifetime DC that didn’t want to be HC), but he obviously got too old/lazy/stale.

I think Orgeron was a DC at one time for USC, I'm not sure. He should just can Pelini and take over himself until he hires a new one.

Es does not understand that you cannot just hire your buddies. This is a huge blind spot.

At some point you have to give credit to Dabo for playing a role in the coaching as well. He’s made good hires, but he has also helped to elevate them.
That’s the difference between him and Orgeron.
