Spread offense
Rules in favor of offense
Poor tackling. Rarely any defender wraps up anymore. The open field tackle attempt with the back of shoulder is very popular.

Back in the day (I'm only 32, so this wasn't too long ago), if a QB threw a crossing route into a crowd the slot WR would get absolutely smoked.
When the threat of violence is taken away, then spread offenses now can use the ENTIRE field without penalty. It's not fair.

Maybe we can force offenses to wear shock collars to scare them into being bad again

The other part of it is that with teams going to the spread, they’re using 4-5 wrs. Therefore the best athletes aren’t on defense anymore.

It's very difficult to play DB nowadays. All the new rules favor the offense. Good offensive coaches are running all these RPO concepts and subtle "rub" routes that basically make it impossible to stay with a receiver.

1. Modern Offensive philosophy has taken over. Many old school coaches were stuck in the stone age and not taking advantage of new ideas and new rules, those coaches are all gone.
2. The rule changes over the past 20 years, especially the past 10 years, have made it harder to play aggressive defense.
Defenses have not caught up to modern offensive philosophy and if the rules don't change to help out the D, it probably never will.

A lot of people say it is solely because of rule changes, but these innovative offensive minds have really changed the game more than anything else.
